The Weather Anchor will produce and report weather and traffic forecasts, engage with viewers, manage social media presence, and collaborate with various teams.
ROLE: FOX 5 San Diego/KUSI News duopoly is seeking a dynamic Weather Anchor for KUSI’s 5-hour long legacy weekday morning news. Successful candidate is digitally savvy, excels in ad-libbing and storytelling to drive engagement with viewers across multiple platforms.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurate and creative producing and reporting of daily weather and traffic forecast to support multiple live hits – using all resources available
- Anchors, produces and contributes content to digital platforms including station’s CTV streaming app, website and social media account
- Collaborates with producers, assignment desk, digital team to create timely and engaging reports across all platforms
- Must be able to ad-lib live breaking news with a strong ability to interact with anchors in studio
- Must be able to report live in the field and turn a pkg as needed
- Stays informed on current news and community events, digital and social trends to improve quality of content and promote station brand
- Develops community contacts and a network of news sources
- Maintain strong, professional social media presence to promote station brand
- Adhere to all company policies to uphold highest level of journalistic integrity
- Attend station partnerships in the community
- Additional duties as necessary
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.A. or B.S. degree preferably in Meteorology, Journalism or related education
- Prefer minimum 5 years TV news weather anchor experience in a medium to large market
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must interact positively and productively with colleagues and management at all times
- Strong on-air presentation – must be credible, personable and passionate
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Must have strong organizational and time management skills and be detail-oriented
- Must be digitally savvy and technically nimble to take advantage of newsroom resources and adapt to change
- Must be able to accept and act on constructive direction and feedback
- Must be flexible with schedule and fill-in different shifts, weekends, holidays as needed
- Knowledge of WSI, Baron or similar weather forecasting system

- Compensation starting at $95k a year commensurate with experience and skill level.
