The Sports Reporter/MMJ will create and produce digital and broadcast content, report on sports stories, and engage audiences through creative storytelling.
ROLE: FOX 5 San Diego/KUSI News duopoly is seeking a Sports Reporter/Multi-Media Journalist for our broadcast and digital platforms. A successful candidate is digitally savvy, excels in enterprising ideas and storytelling that connects with audiences on broadcast, website and social. This position requires the MMJ to shoot, write, edit vosots and packages and produce sportscasts as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurate reporting of sports stories and producing of sportscasts/special sports shows beyond highlights, focusing on impact not just scores and plays
- Hosts, produces or contributes content to digital platforms including station’s CTV streaming app, website and social media accounts
- Must be creative with how to tailor and present stories in ways to engage today’s audiences
- Attends editorial meetings and regularly pitches original story ideas
- Develops community contacts and a network of sources
- Sets up, write, shoot and edit packages to meet deadlines regularly
- Collaborates with assignment desk, producer, photographer on live shots as needed
- Must be able to ad-lib live with a strong ability to interact with anchors in studio
- Ensures all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
- Attends station partnerships in community
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.A. or B.S. Degree preferably in Sports journalism, communication or equivalent related experience
- Prefer 3-5 years TV news reporting in a medium to large market
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must interact positively and productively with colleagues and the public
- Upholds station values and models professionalism on and off the air
- Exceptional writing, grammar and spelling
- Excellent communication skills with ability to ad-lib when required
- Strong on-air presentation – must be credible, personable and engaging
- Excellent time management skill
- Excellent editing skills with Adobe Premiere and video camera/news photography skills
- Ability to carry 25-30 pounds of equipment
- Flexible with schedule and willing to work additional hours or days or different shifts and holidays as required by news content
- Strong attention to detail
- Must be able to accept constructive direction and feedback
- Compensation starting at $30/hour commensurate with experience and skill level.
