Job Description

We’re looking for a strategic, hands-on Vice President of Finance to join our executive team and help lead Paper through its next chapter of growth. This role is ideal for a player-coach who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments, brings strong FP&A and operational finance chops, and is energized by the opportunity to shape the future of a mission-driven business.

You’ll work closely with the CEO, leadership team, and board to steer the company’s financial strategy, optimize performance, and ensure we have the systems, insights, and discipline to scale with excellence. You’ll lead a lean, high-leverage team while staying close to the numbers yourself. And you’ll be joining at a pivotal moment as we innovate with AI to deliver more personalized, scalable student support. If you’re excited by the opportunity to make a direct and lasting impact on a company that’s reshaping education for millions of students—this role is for you.

This role reports to the CEO and is fully remote, with flexibility to work from anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.

  • Proven ability to partner cross-functionally and influence strategic decisions across departments.

  • Adept at communicating complex financial concepts clearly to executives, board members, and cross-functional teams.

  • Strong modeling and analytical skills; fluent in Excel/Google Sheets and modern FP&A tools.

Nice to Have

  • Background in investment banking, SaaS, or marketplace business models.

  • Experience working directly with boards and supporting capital raises or investor relations.

  • Experience supporting multiple entities with employees in the U.S. and Canada.

  • Experience working in remote, distributed organizations across multiple time zones.

The annual salary range for this position is $220,000-$260,000 USD or $172,000-$205,000 CAD, plus equity. Please note that the final offer amount is determined by multiple factors, including geographic location as well as candidate experience, and may vary from the amounts listed above.

If you’re energized by challenges, inspired by impact, and ready to help lead a high-growth business through its next phase, we’d love to meet you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
