If you’re ready to see your impact and unlock incredible career growth opportunities, join us, and build real world value.

What You’ll Do

As VP of Engineering, Payments, reporting to the SVP of Engineering, you will own the technical execution, operational excellence, and long-term evolution of Ripple’s global payments platform. This includes cross-border payout systems, FX and liquidity infrastructure, collections capabilities, and the integration and scaling of acquired platforms.

You will lead a growing payments engineering organization (approximately 75 engineers today) and play a central role in positioning Ripple as the bridge between regulated financial systems and blockchain-native value movement.

You will:

  • Own the end-to-end payments engineering domain, including cross-border flows, FX, currency conversion, liquidity management, and settlement

  • Lead and scale teams across core payments, collections, and integrated platforms

  • Drive architectural clarity and simplification, reducing system sprawl and enabling faster delivery, higher reliability, and clearer product boundaries

  • Lead the integration of acquired technologies into a cohesive, modern payments architecture, transforming multiple systems into a scalable, unified product platform

  • Ensure high availability, correctness, and operational excellence for real-time, regulated payment systems—earning trust with customers, regulators, and partners

  • Partner closely with Product to shape roadmap, customer outcomes, and platform capabilities, bringing strong technical and business judgment to product decisions

  • Help achieve sustained product-market fit for next-generation payments offerings by translating platform capabilities into durable customer value

  • Evolve Ripple’s payments stack to leverage stablecoins, on-chain liquidity, and decentralized exchanges as core payments primitives—while maintaining enterprise-grade compliance and trust

  • Build, coach, and develop senior engineering leaders, raising the bar on execution, accountability, and operational rigor

Success in this role means simplifying a complex payments landscape into a reliable, scalable platform—and helping Ripple deliver the next generation of global payments with confidence.

What You’ll Bring

Payments & Systems Expertise

  • Deep experience building and operating large-scale payments systems, ideally including cross-border payments, FX, liquidity, and settlement

  • Strong understanding of regulated, real-time financial systems, including reconciliation and operational risk

Senior Engineering Leadership

  • Proven experience leading senior engineering organizations with ownership of production systems and business outcomes

  • Strong operator mindset, comfortable staying close to architecture and critical system decisions

Systems, Product & Business Thinking

  • Excellent architectural judgment across distributed services and platform design

  • Ability to simplify complex ecosystems and modernize platforms without disrupting customers

  • Business-minded leader who can partner deeply with Product, Compliance, and Commercial teams

Orientation Toward What’s Next

  • Curiosity about blockchain, stablecoins, and decentralized liquidity as the next evolution of payments

  • Ability to apply payments discipline to new primitives

  • Bonus: experience with stablecoins or on-chain settlement

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
