At Kinetix, a New Charter Company, we are seeking a Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) in a remote, United States-based role (in other companies this person could hold the title of Strategic Technology Advisor, Virtual IT Director, IT Strategy Consultant) to develop technology strategies, roadmaps, and investment plans that align IT solutions with client business objectives.

This is a fully remote position based in the United States.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted strategic technology advisor to assigned clients, partnering with executive stakeholders, internal technical teams, and Cybersecurity Services to guide technology investments and long-term IT planning. You will lead technology business reviews, develop IT budgets and lifecycle strategies using ScalePad, and recommend solutions across platforms such as Cisco Meraki, Microsoft Intune, Azure, Jamf MDM, Okta, and CrowdStrike. You will also identify opportunities to expand Kinetix services while ensuring technology recommendations deliver measurable business value.

To be successful in this role, you will combine broad technical expertise with strong business acumen, relationship management, and executive-level communication skills. You will proactively evaluate client infrastructure, identify risks and improvement opportunities, and develop actionable technology plans that reduce support issues, prevent emergencies, and optimize IT spending. You will also coordinate with internal teams to ensure technology recommendations are implemented effectively and client environments remain aligned with evolving business and security requirements.

General Job Duties Include:
  • Serve as the primary strategic technology advisor for assigned clients, establishing trusted relationships with executives, business owners, and key decision-makers.
  • Lead regularly scheduled technology strategy meetings and technology business reviews, communicating findings, risks, recommendations, and investment priorities in clear, business-focused terms.
  • Develop and maintain strategic technology roadmaps, IT budgets, and lifecycle management plans aligned with each client's business objectives and operational requirements.
  • Evaluate client technology environments to identify infrastructure risks, operational inefficiencies, and opportunities for modernization.
  • Take ownership of client technology strategy challenges, developing practical recommendations and coordinating solutions with appropriate stakeholders.
  • Implement proactive IT strategies designed to reduce recurring support issues, prevent technology emergencies, and lower the total cost of IT ownership.
  • Identify and recommend emerging technologies, strategic improvements, and service offerings that support client growth and operational efficiency.
  • Recommend and position Kinetix services to existing clients, connecting proposed solutions and investments to specific business needs and measurable outcomes.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of Kinetix service offerings, vendor solutions, and technology platforms, including ScalePad, Cisco Meraki, Jamf MDM, Microsoft Intune, Azure, Okta, OneLogin, CrowdStrike, and ThreatLocker.
  • Use ScalePad to track client technology assets, evaluate hardware and software lifecycles, develop replacement budgets, and prepare technology business reviews.
  • Coordinate with internal technical teams, service delivery personnel, vendors, and external partners to ensure timely and accurate delivery of vCIO services.
  • Assist internal teams with escalations, technical questions, and strategic decisions related to client infrastructure, technology environments, and business goals.
  • Partner with the Cybersecurity Services team to incorporate security, risk management, and compliance considerations into client technology strategies and recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of client IT systems, infrastructure configurations, technology assets, and strategic recommendations.
  • Monitor client technology needs and evolving business priorities to ensure technology roadmaps and service recommendations remain relevant and actionable.
  • Promote a consultative, service-oriented client experience focused on delivering consistent value and strengthening long-term client relationships.

Required Experience:
  • 5+ years of professional information technology experience, with broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, operational best practices, and technology lifecycle management.
  • Demonstrated client-facing experience in a consultative, technical advisory, or account management role, including presenting technology strategies and recommendations to executive stakeholders.
  • Strong technical knowledge of Windows and macOS environments, servers, cloud infrastructure, networking, and modern business technology solutions.
  • Experience evaluating technology environments, identifying improvement opportunities, developing strategic recommendations, and supporting organizational technology initiatives.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple client relationships and translate technical concepts into clear business recommendations.

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous experience serving as a vCIO, IT Director, technical strategist, or strategic technology advisor within a managed service provider (MSP) environment.
  • Experience developing client technology roadmaps, IT budgets, lifecycle management plans, and executive-level technology business reviews.
  • Familiarity with ScalePad for asset management, lifecycle planning, budgeting, and strategic client reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco Meraki, Jamf MDM, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Azure, Okta, OneLogin, CrowdStrike, and ThreatLocker.
  • Experience recommending technology services, supporting account growth, and identifying opportunities to improve client IT environments through strategic investments.
  • Relevant IT training or professional certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or equivalent technical credentials.

Preferred Attributes:
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term technology planning and tactical problem-solving.
  • Passionate about technology and helping organizations achieve business objectives through effective IT solutions.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, process-driven, and self-motivated.
  • Demonstrates strong integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and accountability.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and consultative in working with clients and internal teams.
  • Committed to delivering accurate, consistent, and high-quality work.
  • Receptive to constructive feedback and proactive in applying improvements.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
