This is a remote position.

A producer role developing and producing exceptional journalist-led content with a globally traveling on-camera presenter, across short, medium and long formats.

Organization: Confidential client in the media sector
Location: Fully remote – open to candidates anywhere in the world
Role Type: Full-time | Consultant-contractor

The opportunity

Our client's co-founder is an on-camera journalist and presenter who is constantly moving between countries, communities and stories. The client is looking for a producer to develop and produce exceptional content with him as the presenter.

He is the talent. You will work closely with him behind the scenes to shape the strategy, find the stories, develop the angles, research the facts and write the scripts that bring his journalism to life. As co-founder of a media company that helps people tell the stories traditional media overlooks, he is building a presenter-led output across short, medium and long formats: everything from one-minute reactions and recurring explainer series to podcasts, interviews and documentaries.

You will help decide what he should cover, why it matters and how he should tell the story on camera.

About the organization

Our client is a media company that helps the 99% be seen by empowering people to tell their own stories, because traditional media focuses on the 1%. Its co-founder presents the journalism this role will build.

What you will do

  • Build a strategy for presenter-led content around his voice, interests, travel and access.
  • Proactively pitch original stories, timely reactions and unexpected angles, particularly around social justice.
  • Research subjects thoroughly, find credible sources and identify the details that make a story compelling.
  • Write scripts for on-camera delivery, with natural spoken language, strong hooks and clear storytelling.
  • Develop distinctive shows and repeatable formats the presenter hosts, including explainers, podcasts and documentaries.
  • Identify contributors, interview opportunities and stories in the places the presenter is visiting.
  • Prepare presenter briefs, interview questions, filming plans and story outlines so he arrives ready to shoot.
  • Produce his on-camera delivery, whether remotely or on location, with feedback on clarity, pacing and performance.
  • Work with editors to shape his footage into strong finished stories, including supporting footage, graphics and sound.
  • Develop titles, thumbnails and social copy that make people want to watch.
  • Study performance and audience retention, then apply what you learn to the next piece.
  • Protect factual accuracy and editorial integrity from the first pitch through to publication.

What you bring

  • A proven track record in digital journalism, video production or documentary storytelling.
  • Experience producing presenter-led content and working directly with on-camera talent.
  • Published work that has generated millions of views, with a clear explanation of your contribution.
  • Excellent research, scripting and storytelling skills.
  • A strong understanding of how audiences behave across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and Facebook.
  • The ability to write both a sharp short-form hook and a sustained narrative for a longer film.
  • The initiative and organization to keep projects moving around a demanding travel schedule.
  • A deep commitment to social justice and a decolonial understanding of power, politics and representation: you question whose perspective is treated as authoritative, whose experiences are overlooked and who benefits from the way a story is told, while keeping the journalistic discipline to interrogate your own assumptions, check every claim and follow the evidence.

How the engagement works

  • You will contract directly with Apricot, which manages contracting, invoicing/payroll, payments, and administrative support.
  • Contracting arrangements, monthly compensation, time-zone overlap and the exact start date will be confirmed before an offer.
  • Your work will be based on the agreed scope and deliverables.
  • You are expected to provide your own laptop and basic equipment, maintain reliable connectivity and a secure working environment, and follow required security controls, including two-factor authentication.
  • You will collaborate with the client's distributed production and editorial teams.
  • We welcome candidates from different backgrounds and lived experiences, and selection is based on the requirements of the role; if you need a reasonable adjustment during the hiring process, please let us know.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
