The ideal candidate will be based in Miami and will require regular in-office work, with regular travel expected to San Francisco, or elsewhere, to be onsite with teams.

Atomic is a venture studio. We don’t take pitches. We build companies as co-founders. We believe that disruption is most successfully achieved by pairing innovative ideas with business discipline. We have launched and scaled more than 20 companies including Hims & Hers, Exowatt, Replicant, Found, Bungalow, Homebound, and Villa.

As a Vice President on the Strategic Finance team at Atomic, you will work across our portfolio to ensure their success and through them, our funds’ success. For our earlier stage companies, you will be their finance team; as they grow and hire their own teams, you will help them hire their own teams, transition workflows to them, and continue to assist where needed.

Working with Atomic’s funds, you will monitor our portfolio companies’ performance, including financial and operating metrics, drawing attention to areas that need focus and working with partners and portfolio companies to take action.

Finally, you will be a partner to our 0:1 team, helping to create new companies. From identifying focus areas, industries, and business models, to defining success and supporting investment decisions, you will be involved in every stage of company creation.

This role has a uniquely broad mandate to help make strategic decisions that have a direct impact on a range of transformative businesses.

Responsibilities:
  • Build, and supervise associates in building financial models including considering unit economics, margins, cash flows, and non-financial KPIs

  • Teach, manage, and support the growth of junior Strategic Finance team members

  • For our early stage companies:

    • Own the finance function, working with our accounting team to ensure financial statements are closed on time and accurately, with useful financial reporting

    • Put budgets in place, with regular monitoring of variances and budget vs. actuals

  • Assess monetization strategies and pricing to support sustainable growth and margins

  • Use industry research and public and private data sources to inform our views on funding round size, investor mix, key metrics and milestones

  • Lead and support equity and debt raises with company leadership, including writing narratives, preparing presentations, and preparing financial analyses and exhibits

  • Define best practices, standards, and processes and build curriculums and template libraries that will teach founders to stand up best-in-class finance teams

  • Provide analysis supporting portfolio company and Atomic investment decisions

  • Monitor portfolio companies including financial and operating metrics

  • Analyze potential fund-level returns and outcomes

  • Value and support the valuation for companies, understanding how to justify the values and multiples using relevant metrics and comparables.

Requirements:
  • 4-6+ years of experience in PE, VC, IBD, or relevant investment/operating experience

  • Exceptional quantitative skills, mastery of Excel, and ability to interface with and get data from operational data systems such as Mode, Looker, Tableau, etc

  • Desire and ability to operate as a “full stack”, training and managing teams while being able to get hands on and do the work as needed

  • Attention to detail and a trusted pair of hands to independently take on any responsibility

  • Proactive attitude and an ability to separate signal from noise and define and test hypotheses to define a path forward even with imperfect and messy data

  • Impeccable integrity and the ability to build trust with founders

  • Experience with a wide range of business models, with strong pattern matching and ability to focus on what really matters while bringing founders along to key insights.

We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you’re excited about this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
