About PayZen

PayZen is on a mission to bring financial health to healthcare. Our products improve both access and affordability for patients and cash flow & administrative complexity for medical providers. We are trusted by a rapidly growing number of health systems, hospitals, and physician groups and are backed by leading venture capital investors, including NEA, SignalFire, Viola Group, and 7Wire Ventures.

About the Role

We are seeking a strategic and execution-driven leader to serve as our Vice President, Strategic Finance. This role is built for someone who can build the model themselves and turn its output into a compelling narrative for our board and investors.

You will act as a primary architect of our financial strategy, ensuring our long-term growth is supported by robust planning, disciplined capital strategy, and actionable insight. This is a high-agency role in an environment with real ambiguity; you will be expected to form a point of view and defend it.

In this role, you will report to the Chief Executive Officer and lead a dedicated team. You will collaborate closely with Accounting, Capital Markets, Go-To-Market, Product, and People to drive company-wide alignment and performance. This position is based in our San Francisco headquarters with in-office days on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Responsibilities
  • Own company-wide financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including the annual budgeting process, long-range planning, liquidity forecasting, and ongoing business performance reviews.

  • Build and maintain the company's core operating model - driver-based, defensible, and rigorous enough to withstand investor and lender diligence.

  • Lead financial execution on capital raises and other strategic corporate transactions, including materials, models, diligence, and cross-functional accountability.

  • Own board and investor reporting: design the reporting cadence, build a compelling narrative around our performance and trajectory, and present it with credibility to sophisticated financial audiences.

  • Partner with Go-To-Market and Product leaders to develop pricing models, unit economic analyses, and impact sizing for new strategic initiatives.

  • Build and scale the Strategic Finance function, mentoring a high-performing team and implementing scalable financial systems and dashboards.

Requirements
  • Investment banking experience is required, with a track record of executing M&A, capital raises, or other complex transactions end-to-end.

  • Elite financial modeling and analytical ability - you build the model yourself and can defend every assumption in it.

  • Proven ability to operate at both altitudes - rigorous and deep in the model, and able to translate that work into a compelling narrative for investors, lenders, and the board.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy, build trust, and drive clarity across executive, technical, and operational teams in high-ambiguity environments.

  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on doing things the right way and maintaining a high personal standard of excellence.

  • Nice to have: Experience in fintech, healthcare, or another regulated environment.

  • Nice to have: Exposure to lending, receivables, or balance-sheet businesses, including warehouse facilities or securitization.

  • Nice to have: Experience using AI tools to accelerate financial analysis, reporting, and team workflows.

Why PayZen?
  • An opportunity to positively affect the lives of thousands of patients

  • A chance to join a high-growth company at an early stage

  • Contribute to the development of a product that revolutionizes medical payments in ways never seen before

  • Become a key member of a collaborative, high performing team, shaping its growth and success

  • Competitive pay, benefits and stock options

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
