Position Summary

The Skirball Cultural Center seeks a strategic, creative, collaborative, and visitor-focused Vice President of Marketing to lead the institution’s efforts to build awareness, deepen engagement, strengthen its brand and reputation, and create an exceptional experience for everyone who encounters the Skirball. This is a new position absorbing some existing functions, but designed to bring new emphasis and resources to raising the Skirball’s profile regionally and nationally as a model for Jewish community engagement and the positive impact of Skirball’s cultural content in a diverse and plural democratic society. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and serving as a member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President provides strategic oversight of marketing, communications, social media and digital content, graphic design and brand identity, public and media relations, visitor experience, admissions and box office, and retail operations. The position encompasses both how the Skirball reaches people and how people experience the Skirball once they engage.

The Vice President develops and implements integrated strategies that increase attendance and participation, expand and diversify audiences, strengthen loyalty and retention, advance earned revenue, and elevate the Skirball’s visibility and influence in Los Angeles and beyond. The position works closely with leaders across the institution—including the Museum, Education, Programs, Development, Hospitality and Community Events, and Operations—to ensure that the Skirball presents a compelling, welcoming, and consistent experience at every audience touchpoint.

The Vice President is an active institutional partner—not simply a service provider to other departments—and brings audience, brand, communications, and visitor perspectives into strategic planning and decision-making. The position oversees leaders and teams responsible for implementing the work described below, providing strategic direction, setting priorities and goals, allocating resources, and evaluating results.

At the heart of the position is the Skirball’s commitment to welcoming the stranger. The Vice President ensures that communications, marketing, brand expression, customer service, digital experiences, admissions, retail, and community relationships reflect the institution’s mission, Jewish values, and American democratic ideals.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
