About the Opportunity

The Vice President, Global Tax is responsible for providing strategic leadership, oversight, and execution of all tax matters for Driscoll’s and its global subsidiaries. This role serves as the company’s primary expert on tax issues and is accountable for aligning the global tax strategy with business objectives. Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance, managing risk, and optimizing tax processes and systems, timely and accurate accounting for taxes, and effective communication with senior leadership and Board members. The role oversees a team of 11 professionals, located in Watsonville, California and Guadalajara, Mexico.
Operating at the executive level, the VP Global Tax collaborates closely with the CFO, Audit Committee, and senior leadership to drive tax strategy, governance, risk management, and transparency.

 Responsibilities

• Lead the development and execution of a global tax strategy aligned with business objectives, while serving as the primary advisor to executive leadership and the Board on cross-border transactions, supply chain structuring, and expansion initiatives.

• Oversee global tax accounting and reporting under US GAAP, including the preparation and review of income tax expense, deferred tax assets and liabilities, and financial statement disclosures, while ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant reporting aligned with evolving accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

• Oversee global tax compliance and audit management by ensuring adherence to US federal, state, and international tax regulations, directing the accurate and timely preparation, and filing of tax returns across jurisdictions, leading tax audits and dispute resolution with authorities worldwide, and collaborating with regional finance teams to drive consistent and effective execution.

• Provide thought leadership and drive business partnership and cross-functional collaboration by working closely with Finance, Legal, Treasury, and Business Units to support business planning, forecasting, M&A transactions, and capital structure decisions, while providing strategic tax insights to inform decision-making and ensuring enterprise-wide initiatives fully integrate tax considerations.

• Manage transfer pricing and international tax by establishing and maintaining global transfer pricing policies and documentation frameworks, ensuring compliance with OECD guidelines and local requirements (including BEPS and Pillar 2 readiness), advising on intercompany transactions and tax-efficient structures, and monitoring global tax developments to assess and address their impact on the organization.

• Establish and lead tax risk management and governance by implementing robust tax controls, policies, and frameworks, proactively identifying and mitigating risks across all jurisdictions, ensuring tax positions are well-supported and compliant with applicable regulations, and fostering a strong culture of ethics and compliance in all tax-related activities.

• Provide team leadership and organizational development for the global tax function by building and managing a high-performing international team across multiple countries, providing mentorship and career growth opportunities for tax professionals, leveraging a hybrid model of internal resources and external advisors to optimize delivery, and ensuring the function is scalable to support the company’s continued global expansion.

• Manage external advisor and stakeholder relationships by overseeing engagements with tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory bodies, directing service providers across compliance, consulting, and tax planning activities, and negotiating contracts to ensure high-quality, cost-effective delivery of tax services aligned with organizational needs.

• Support and provide direction for the Company’s ERP (Oracle) and other software implementations and increase efficiency and analytical capabilities of the Global Tax function using existing tax platforms: OneSource, Sovos and Edicom.

• Lead tax planning and optimization initiatives by driving strategies to manage and inform upon the company’s effective tax rate, enhance cash tax efficiency, and strengthen the global tax structure, while evaluating and implementing tax-efficient approaches that align with business objectives and comply with evolving regulatory requirements.

    Candidate Profile

Requirements: Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

Academic Profile:
•    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field (required) 
•    Master’s degree in taxation, Accounting, Law, or MBA (preferred) 
•    CPA, JD, or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred
Professional and Functional Experience:
•    20+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership roles
•    Extensive experience in multinational corporations and global tax operations
•    Deep expertise in international tax and tax planning
•    Proven experience managing complex tax structures and cross-border transactions 
•    Experience working with executive leadership and boards
Areas of Expertise:
•    Well-developed leadership and people skills with the demonstrated ability to engage cross-functional counterparts in the US and beyond, senior executives of the Company, and members of the Board of Directors
•    Experience at a company with an extensive global presence
Certifications and Technical Skills:
•    CPA (Certified Public Accountant) – U.S. or equivalent (CA, ACCA, etc.
•    Strong strategic thinking and business acumen
•    Deep technical knowledge of global tax regulations
•    Exceptional leadership and team management skills
•    Excellent communication and influencing abilities
•    High level of integrity and sound judgment
People Management: 
•    Over 10 years of experience in leading a team.

Compensation & Benefits:

The following information is provided in good faith as a general description of the salary range and benefits for the position posted.  The actual compensation offered to the successful candidate is dependent upon experience, skills, education, work location, internal pay equity, and other objective job-related factors.

Salary Range estimated for the VP of Global Tax: $280,000 – $350,000 USD.
