Yahoo serves as a trusted guide for hundreds of millions of people globally, helping them achieve their goals online through our portfolio of iconic products. For advertisers, Yahoo Advertising offers omnichannel solutions and powerful data to engage with our brands and deliver results.

About the Role:

As a Vertical Strategist (Auto & Travel) for Yahoo Ads, you will develop Auto and Travel-specific advertising solutions across all of our iconic brands.

Bringing deep industry expertise (OEMs, Tier 2/3 Auto, Hospitality, and Tourism) directly to the Sales team, you will author tailored, audience-first proposals and advertiser narratives. You will bridge sales teams, publishing properties, and data insights to show Auto and Travel advertisers exactly how Yahoo’s scale and media solutions meet their business goals.

This role blends creative storytelling with data-driven strategy. The ideal candidate is a vocal leader, analytical thinker, and creative problem solver who can easily translate data into persuasive client pitches.

Key Responsibilities:

Proposal Strategy & Narrative Development:

  • Lead RFP Responses: Create tailored responses to client RFPs, simplifying complex options into clear, customized advertising solutions for the Auto and Travel purchase cycles.

  • Build Audience-Led Narratives: Focus on holistic, audience-driven stories that leverage Yahoo's scale and consumer data insights, such as auto shopper intent and seasonal travel trends, over isolated product pitches.

  • Craft Clear Copy: Write persuasive materials that highlight Yahoo's media benefits without relying on dense industry jargon.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with Sales: Collaborate with sales leads and account directors to plan strategic outreach for target Auto and Travel accounts.

  • Align on Strategy: Join client kickoff calls to ensure cross-property media and content strategies align from the start of an RFP.

  • Package Solutions: Work with creative studios, product, and yield teams to include mockups and data packages that demonstrate campaign value.

  • Leverage Editorial: Coordinate with content and editorial teams to turn upcoming auto shows, seasonal travel windows, and property features into advertiser opportunities.

Project Management & Execution:

  • Manage Timelines: Balance multiple, fast-paced RFP timelines simultaneously, using internal tracking tools to prioritize high-value business.

  • Collaborate Early: Share draft materials early to support an iterative review culture and ensure high-quality final submissions.

  • Balance Story & Data: Combine strong storytelling with data to build a compelling case for Yahoo's solutions in all marketing and sales materials.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5–7 years in digital media, advertising strategy, or agency planning, ideally working with Auto and/or Travel brands. Experience growing revenue via content sponsorship or media campaigns is preferred.

  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of digital advertising, from standard media formats to custom brand sponsorships and lower-funnel consideration strategies.

  • AI Fluency: Comfort leveraging generative AI tools to streamline workflow efficiencies, analyze data insights, and spark innovative concepts for auto and travel pitches.

  • Data Literacy: Ability to use audience data, search intent, and first-party shopping/travel booking insights to build clear, data-backed strategic recommendations.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience organizing complex information into clean presentation decks.

  • Mindset: A collaborative, client-focused approach with the ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and adapt to changing workflows.

The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
