Overview

Sagent is a leading mortgage servicing, SaaS-based, financial technology company that thrives on innovation and excellence. We’re looking for a Principal UI Designer to lead, scale, and evolve our design system as it extends across our enterprise product ecosystem. You’ll ensure consistency, usability, and accessibility while driving innovation in our UI components, patterns, and guidelines. You’ll collaborate closely with product designers, engineers, and stakeholders to expand and maintain a robust design system that balances structure with flexibility. While deep coding expertise isn’t required, you should be comfortable reading and understanding code to bridge the gap between design and development effectively.

Your Day-To-Day at Sagent

  • Own and scale the Figma design system to support a growing enterprise ecosystem.
  • Define and maintain UI components, patterns, and documentation that empower designers and developers.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure seamless design-to-code implementation (you don’t need to write production code, but you should understand how it works).
  • Advocate for best practices in accessibility, scalability, and performance across all UI elements.
  • Work closely with product designers to align system components with evolving user needs while maintaining visual and functional consistency.
  • Standardize workflows for contribution, governance, and adoption of new design patterns.
  • Conduct design audits and proactively address inconsistencies or gaps in the system.
  • Serve as a champion of design system adoption, educating teams across the company.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, tools, and frameworks to continuously evolve our system.

We Would Love to Hear From You if You Have:

  • 7+ years of experience in UI design, with at least 4 years focused on design systems (enterprise-scale experience is a big plus). Experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong understanding of UI development principles—you can read HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript, even if you’re not writing production code.
  • Deep experience with design tools (Figma, Sketch, etc.) and design system management tools (Storybook)
  • Familiarity with component-based design, token-based theming, and front-end frameworks (React, Vue, etc.).
  • A solid grasp of accessibility standards (WCAG, ARIA) and usability principles.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, especially engineering and product.
  • Excellent communication skills—you can advocate for the design system and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A problem-solving mindset with a passion for creating scalable, maintainable, and user-friendly design solutions.

Additional Skills & Preferred Knowledge

  • Experience with enterprise SaaS or B2B products.
  • Prior work on multi-brand, multi-platform design systems.
  • Working knowledge of React/Vue
  • Knowledge of design tokens and their implementation in modern front-end frameworks.

Why Join Us?

  • High-impact role: You’ll directly shape a design system that supports an entire enterprise ecosystem.
  • Collaboration at scale: Work with talented designers, engineers, and product teams to build something lasting.
  • Room to grow: We value expertise and innovation, and we’re excited to see what you’ll bring to the team. If you’re passionate about scaling design systems, bridging the gap between design and development, and creating a seamless UI experience across enterprise products, we’d love to hear from you! Apply now and help us shape the future of our design system.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
