Gensler is seeking an energetic self-starter to join our Cities + Urban Design practice area working on a range of high-profile public and private sector projects including site analysis, concept design, master plans, specific plans, development standards and other planning studies. Ideal candidates will possess a background in urban planning and policy have demonstrated exceptional leadership through past academic and/or professional achievements. Strong interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills are critical. Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is a must. Candidates should be quick-learners, able to work independently and exude an entrepreneurial spirit.

Gensler is hiring for this position in our Los Angeles office.

What You Will Do

  • Research and summarize planning and zoning regulations for project sites

  • Analyze and document existing conditions for project sites

  • Prepare text and graphics for planning documents, including: specific plans, zoning code amendments, general plan amendments, design standards and other planning studies

  • Support community engagement campaigns, lead facilitations and workshops, and design accessible engagement graphics and collateral

  • Support project team in generating creative planning and design solutions

  • Support project team in preparing and making presentations to clients, community stakeholders, and city planning staff

  • Support project team in project management and administration, including preparing meeting agendas, notes, presentation and progress reports

  • Support internal research projects and initiatives

Your Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in City/Regional Planning, Urban Design, or other closely related field

  • 3 – 7 years of experience related to urban planning, policy, design and/or strategy

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent written communication skills, including ability to write reports documenting analysis findings, planning processes, and design ideas

  • Excellent verbal skills, including ability to support community engagement activities and client presentations

  • Excellent graphic communication skills, including ability to prepare compelling diagrams to illustrate planning and design ideas

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • AICP certified or AICP candidate

  • Proficiency in GIS and Mapping tools

  • Proficiency in 3-D modeling tools, such as AutoCAD, Rhino and/or Revit

  • Familiarity with California planning laws, policies, and regulatory tools

*The base salary will be estimated between $80,000 - $95,000 plus bonuses and benefits and contingent on relevant experience.
