Position Overview

DB Insurance is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Underwriting Operations Intern to support our team in building a world-class underwriting structure. This role is designed for a student or recent graduate eager to gain hands-on exposure to core insurance functions, including risk monitoring, reinsurance operations, and data integration. Working in a collaborative and dynamic environment, you will help bridge the gap between technical data and underwriting strategy—making this an ideal opportunity for candidates with strong numerical skills and an interest in launching a career in the Insurance Industry. This internship is scheduled for a 6 month duration, with the possibility of extension depending on performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting & Guideline Support: Assist in monitoring underwriting guidelines and help implement updates; conduct market research on competitor underwriting trends and rate movements.
  • Reinsurance Operations: Support the management of treaty reinsurance, including data reporting, commission settlements, and preparing renewal materials (risk profiles and renewal information).
  • External Service Integration: Research and help evaluate external underwriting tools, such as natural catastrophe modeling and satellite imagery providers.
  • Data Analysis: Assist in managing contracts with external vendors and utilize data to support loss ratio analysis; create basic data visualizations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Quality Control & Documentation: Support the team in maintaining file integrity and updating internal underwriting manuals/standard operating procedures (SOP).
Qualifications
  • Educational Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field.
  • Industry Interest:A genuine curiosity about the insurance landscape with a strong desire to grow into a full-time Underwriting professional.
  • Analytical Mindset: Strong numerical aptitude with the ability to analyze data sets and perform accurate calculations.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional precision and a commitment to producing high-quality, reliable work.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to break down complex information into clear, understandable insights for the team.
  • Proactive Learner: A self-motivated attitude with a strong desire to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
