What You’ll Do
The Traffic Lead is responsible for helping lead all transportation functions necessary to ensure on time shipping of outbound products to our customers in a safe, accurate and cost effective manner. This includes managing carrier performance, shipping office personnel, coordination of all inbound/outbound transportation and the timely and accurate recording of all shipping transactions.
How you will contribute:
- Schedule and secure appointments for all outbound shipments, regardless of terms (collect or prepaid) or method (TL, LTL, ground, air, small parcel-UPS, USPS, FedEx, etc.)
- Manage carrier performance
- Negotiate best possible freight rates, while shipping on time to meet customer requested arrival date
- Collaborate with the outbound team and advise leadership of dock/door utilization on a daily basis by coordinating inbound/outbound activities to optimize space and labor
- Maintain and enforce appropriate policies and procedures
- Manage costs within agreed upon budgets and comparisons to market spot rates while sharing with the team to ensure standardization to rate shopping is applied across the department
- Compile periodic reporting on all shipping activities
- Monitor and measure daily, weekly and monthly performance against established metrics
- Analyze shipping activities and propose cost savings improvements
- Provide a safe work environment, and enforce all company and OSHA safety rules and policies
- Other duties as may be assigned
You will have:
- 3-5 years leading a shipping department. Specifically coordinating carrier bookings, rate negotiation and supervising the physical loading of trucks
- Bachelor’s degree in related field, or comparable experience preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of transportation principles, regulations (DOT) and methods in market spot rate bidding
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with various carriers including but not limited to UPS/FedEx/Routing portals/ TL/LTL and WMS
- Strong computer skills (PC and main frame applications)
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Salary range: $23 - $26 per hour (DOE)
