Responsible for designing, analyzing, and fabricating drill tools, jigs, and ground support equipment for aerospace structural assemblies, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.

A tooling engineer on the structural engineering team is responsible for the design, analysis, fabrication, and use of various drill tools, jigs, integration fixtures, and ground support equipment in support of major structural assemblies.
Responsibilities:
- Design complex tooling and fixtures using CAD software to support manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, and inspection.
- Ensure tooling designs meet ergonomic, safety, and operational requirements.
- Work with internal and external machine shops to oversee the fabrication of tools and fixtures, ensuring compliance with design specifications and timelines.
- Evaluate and recommend fabrication methods and materials to optimize tool performance and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and production teams to integrate tooling into production processes seamlessly.
- Conduct tooling trials and validations to ensure readiness for production use.
- Identify opportunities for improving existing tooling and processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality.
- Provide innovative solutions to complex manufacturing challenges.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive tooling documentation, including CAD models, drawings, and operational guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards and company procedures.
- Work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure alignment on tooling requirements and performance.
- Act as a liaison between engineering and production teams to resolve tooling-related issues.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in tooling design and manufacturing engineering within the aerospace, automotive, or related industries.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, additive manufacturing, and fabrication.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, or NX) for tooling design.
- Knowledge of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with manufacturing and assembly processes for high-performance aerospace systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex tooling issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and experience implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
