Crane Aerospace and Electronics has an exciting opportunity for a Tool Cutter Grinder.

First Shift Hours are Monday-Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Overtime may adjust start time (e.g., 4:30 AM for extended overtime) and/or extend end time. Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required.

Job Summary: 

The Tool Cutter Grinder performs precision smoothing, sharpening, polishing, or grinding of metal objects. 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Manufacture cutting tools to a high quality finish 

  • Perform inspection of tooling throughout process 

  • Run machine or job unassisted 

  • Check part to print; Make normal machine adjustments  

  • Change wheel/tooling as required 

  • Achieve standard production/quality 

  • Perform operator preventive maintenance and work area and machine cleaning 

  • Report down machines to supervisor 

  • Perform all set-up operator criteria and properly train others 

  • Help to develop/install new processes/methods 

  • Troubleshoot processes/procedures for better methods/actions 

  • Maintain and adhere to all standard safety protocols (5S) 

  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Experience: 3+ years of relevant work experience  

  • Knowledge: Highly knowledgeable in various grinding processes, materials and precision measuring instrumentation; Understanding of geometry/trigonometry; Experience setting up/running tool and cutter grinders 

  • Skills/Abilities: Ability to read and interpret blue prints and manufacturing outlines; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; Ability to review area workloads, prioritize and assign to team members to support area; Be capable of running complete tools from solid carbide rod or high speed steel blanks; Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and oversight under tight time constraints 

  • Education/Certification: High School diploma or equivalent 

  • Eligibility Requirement:  This position may require access to Controlled Data or Information. Where the position requires such access only US Persons will be considered. As a US Department of Defense contractor, we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge and training in statistical process control and total quality management 

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment 

  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE 

  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes 

  • Flexible and willing to work overtime if necessary 

 

Standing: 50% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task 

Sitting: 50% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task 

Lifting (in pounds):  up to 40 pounds 

Pushing (in pounds):  up to 40 pounds 

Mental/Visual:  use of microscope and computer 

Workspace: clean bench

Hourly Range: $38.00 to $50.00. Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
