About Us
Amidon Heavy Industries is a startup building unmanned systems for the offshore industry. We develop uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) that autonomously deploy tethered remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to inspect subsea pipelines, telecom cables, and offshore infrastructure. Our goal is to deliver reliable subsea awareness at a fraction of the cost of traditional crewed vessels.
The Role
We are hiring a Test Engineer to design, execute, and improve the testing processes that validate our autonomous surface vessel and its subsystems. You will work hands-on with hardware, software, and integrated robotics systems to ensure the platform performs reliably in bench tests, field tests, and on-water missions.
Your work will touch every part of the system—power, networking, sensing, autonomy, and mechanical subsystems—and you will play a key role in turning an evolving prototype into a stable, production-ready platform. This role is perfect for someone who loves building test setups, breaking systems in controlled ways, and closing the loop between observation, diagnosis, and fixes.
Responsibilities:
Develop and execute test plans for electrical, mechanical, and software subsystems
Design repeatable test procedures for core systems (power, comms, sensors, propulsion, autonomy)
Build test fixtures, harnesses, and ad-hoc setups to validate components and subsystems
Run bench-level hardware validation using oscilloscopes, multimeters, protocol analyzers, and data-logging tools
Participate in on-water tests to capture performance data, reproduce bugs, and verify fixes
Create structured logs, issue reports, and root-cause analysis summaries for failures
Work with engineers to set acceptance criteria, reliability thresholds, and regression testing workflows
Support HIL/SIL test setups and scenario-based autonomy testing
Maintain a growing library of test documentation, procedures, and configurations
Track issues across hardware and software, ensuring fixes are verified and closed
Help enforce consistent testing processes across prototypes and field deployments
Qualifications:
Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics) or equivalent hands-on experience
2–5 years of experience testing electromechanical or robotic systems
Strong hands-on skills with lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, DMM, power supplies)
Experience writing and executing structured test procedures for complex hardware
Familiarity with Linux and basic scripting (Python preferred)
Comfort working with CAN, UART, Ethernet, and sensor interfaces
Ability to diagnose failures across electrical, mechanical, and software boundaries
Strong documentation habits and attention to detail
Comfortable working hands-on around water, boats, and outdoor test environments
Bonus Points:
Experience testing autonomous systems, drones, USVs, AUVs, or other field robotics
Experience with ROS or ROS2-based systems
Experience developing HIL/SIL tools or automated test frameworks
Familiarity with environmental or reliability testing (vibration, thermal, ingress, EMC)
Prior field testing experience in harsh or marine environments
