Job Description

Job Summary

U.S. CITIZENSHIP / PERMANENT RESIDENCY REQUIRED

We’re looking for a Test Engineer who enjoys hands-on electronics, troubleshooting complex systems, and using data to solve real engineering challenges.

In this role, you’ll create and maintain production and engineering-level electrical and optical test systems for infrared readouts and focal plane arrays (FPAs). You’ll work directly with test hardware and software, validate automated test equipment (ATE), analyze test data, and help identify opportunities to improve product yield and performance.

This is a great opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a mix of hands-on testing, circuit analysis, software, data analysis, and problem solving while working with advanced infrared imaging technology.

What You’ll Do

  • Test and evaluate ROIC, FPA, and infrared camera performance in a production environment.
  • Create, maintain, and improve electrical and optical test systems used by Engineering and Production.
  • Validate ATE software through code review and direct measurement of timing, voltages, serial streams, and other electrical signals.
  • Design, analyze, and test analog and digital circuits.
  • Perform circuit analysis using simulation and direct measurement.
  • Troubleshoot and improve electrical signal integrity within data acquisition systems.
  • Reduce and analyze test data and generate clear summary reports.
  • Support and lead yield improvement efforts based on test results and data analysis.
  • Develop test procedures and document test results.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to troubleshoot issues and support production and engineering objectives.

What You Bring

  • STEM degree, with Electrical Engineering preferred. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in a Test Engineer or related engineering role.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, locate signals, and understand circuit functionality.
  • Experience using common electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and logic analyzers.
  • Experience performing and analyzing analog and digital circuit designs.
  • Ability to read and work with C++ and/or C# code.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with bolometer and/or InSb infrared cameras.
  • Experience with automated test equipment (ATE).
  • Experience analyzing test data and supporting yield improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with infrared imaging systems, focal plane arrays, or related technologies.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance beginning Day 1
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan
  • Educational tuition reimbursement
  • Fun employee events throughout the year

Salary Range:

$77,900.00-$103,800.000

The anticipated salary range listed for this role is only an estimate. Actual compensation for successful candidates is carefully determined based on several factors including, but not limited to, location, local regulations (such as minimum wage), education/training, work experience, key skills, and type of position.

Teledyne and all of our employees are committed to conducting business with the highest ethical standards. What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
