Forbes is seeking a temporary Social Producer to help get our journalism in front of the right audiences across social platforms. This is an editorial role focused on distribution: identifying the stories that matter, finding the strongest way to frame them for each platform and turning audience interest into readership for Forbes journalism.

The Social Producer will publish primarily across Facebook, LinkedIn and X, while also supporting emerging platforms including Threads, Bluesky and WhatsApp. You’ll work across breaking news, features, investigations and major Forbes franchises including Billionaires, Forbes 400 and Under 30.

We’re looking for someone who understands that social distribution is more than posting links. Packaging is an editorial decision, and the right candidate will have strong news judgment, sharp writing skills and an instinct for the angles, headlines, visuals and formats that make journalism travel. You should be comfortable making publishing decisions independently in a fast-moving newsroom while working within a broader social and audience strategy. The role will report to Senior Editor, Social.

Responsibilities

  • Identify stories with strong social potential and decide what to publish, when and how to frame them.
  • Write, edit, schedule and publish platform-specific posts across Facebook, LinkedIn, X and emerging platforms.
  • Move quickly during breaking news while maintaining Forbes’ standards for accuracy, sourcing and editorial judgment.
  • Select or create basic social assets, partnering with design and art teams on more complex packaging.
  • Identify trends and opportunities on social platforms and communicate effectively with editors
  • Monitor performance and platform trends, using those insights to improve day-to-day publishing decisions and flag opportunities for the newsroom.
  • Work closely with editors, reporters and audience colleagues while maintaining Forbes’ editorial standards and accuracy.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Sharp news judgment, a strong understanding of the news cycle and a commitment to accuracy and journalistic standards.
  • 2–3+ years of experience in a digital newsroom, social editing, audience development or a related editorial role.
  • Strong news judgment and excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Hands-on experience publishing journalism across social platforms, particularly Facebook, LinkedIn and X.
  • Understanding of platform-specific audience behavior, formats and best practices.
  • Ability to make independent editorial decisions and work quickly and accurately in a deadline-driven newsroom.
  • Experience—or strong interest—in business journalism.
  • Comfort using performance data to inform publishing decisions.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Figma or similar design tools; basic social asset creation is preferred.
  • Video editing experience is a plus.
  • Should be news obsessive with a passion for thinking quickly and creatively to identify and pursue opportunities.

The hourly rate for this role is $24.00 - $35.00

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
