HR Operations Specialist- Temporary - Remote

At Salas O’Brien, we are Engineered for Impact®—and that starts with how we support our people. Through thoughtful systems, responsive service, and people-first problem solving, our HR Operations team helps create a consistent and meaningful experience across the team member lifecycle.

This temporary opportunity is designed to meet an immediate operational need while also creating a pathway for the right individual to grow into a longer-term role on our HR Operations team.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a Temporary HR Operations Specialist to provide focused support in Leave Management during a defined coverage period.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will serve as a key partner to team members navigating some of the most important moments in their employment experience.

For the right candidate, this role offers more than short-term coverage—it provides the opportunity to transition into a full-time HR Operations “utility player” role, supporting a wide range of HR processes and initiatives as business needs evolve.

Our HR Operations team serves as the centralized engine behind daily HR execution—supporting data integrity, employee lifecycle processes, policy administration, and cross-functional coordination. As we continue to grow, so does the opportunity to expand impact across the function.

What You’ll Do

Leave Management (Primary Focus)

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for team members navigating leave of absence, including medical, parental, and company-supported leaves
  • Manage end-to-end leave processes including intake, case tracking, documentation milestones, and return-to-work coordination
  • Administer job-protected and company leave programs (e.g., FMLA, parental leave, disability-related leaves), ensuring compliance and consistency
  • Coordinate with external partners and internal teams on state or disability-related benefits where applicable
  • Escalate complex or high-risk cases appropriately

Communication & Coordination

  • Provide clear, empathetic guidance to team members and managers throughout the leave process
  • Partner closely with Payroll, Benefits, and HR Business Partners to ensure seamless, accurate outcomes
  • Maintain detailed and consistent case documentation to support continuity and audit readiness

Process Execution & Improvement

  • Follow established workflows, SOPs, and playbooks to ensure consistent service delivery
  • Maintain accurate data within HR systems and tracking tools
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and share recommendations with HR Operations leadership

Broader HR Operations Support (as needed)

  • Support additional HR Operations activities such as employee inquiries, data validation, and documentation
  • Contribute to special projects and process improvements
  • Operate as a flexible team member, shifting focus based on business priorities

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of experience managing high-touch, case-based HR processes (leave management strongly preferred)
    • Background in HR Operations, HR Administration, or related field
  • Skills & Approach:
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines
    • Clear, professional communication style with a high degree of empathy and discretion
    • Ability to follow structured processes while applying sound judgment
    • Comfort working in HR systems and documentation tools (HRIS experience preferred)
    • Adaptable mindset with a willingness to support evolving priorities
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience

Why This Role Stands Out

This is not a typical temporary role. It is an opportunity to:

  • Step into meaningful, high-impact work immediately
  • Build deep expertise in leave management within a complex, growing organization
  • Gain exposure to a centralized HR Operations model
  • Position yourself for a potential long-term role supporting a broad range of HR functions

We are looking for someone who enjoys both structure and variety—someone who can execute with precision today while growing into broader operational impact tomorrow.

Location:  Remote – United States

The expected hourly rate for this role is $30.00 – $35.00, based on experience and qualifications.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
