At Speedo, product has to do more than look good. It has to move with the swimmer, feel comfortable in the water and support performance, confidence and freedom of movement, whether someone is training, competing, learning or simply enjoying the swim.

Key Purpose:

The Designer will create consumer-focused global swimwear designs that are innovative, performance-driven, brand-right, and commercially viable within assigned product categories. Working closely with Senior Designers and cross-functional partners, this role contributes to the design and development process from concept through commercialization, translating seasonal creative direction into compelling swim solutions that balance performance, fit, function, and aesthetic excellence.

· Design and develop seasonal swimwear products aligned with Speedo's global creative direction, product briefs, and brand DNA.

· Research consumer insights, trend, color, materials, competitive landscape, and innovation opportunities across swim and performance categories.

· Translate concepts into compelling product solutions through Ai, CADs, technical sketches, color, graphics, trims, and material application.

· Contribute to seasonal mood boards, trend presentations, storytelling, and concept development.

Product Development & Execution

· Manage assigned styles from concept through commercialization while maintaining design intent throughout development.

· Create and maintain accurate technical design packages, technical sketches, and product information supporting development and BOM creation.

· Maintain PLM data, BOM accuracy, artwork, color information, trims, branding, and material updates throughout the development process.

· Support fit sessions, wear testing, and product reviews, providing recommendations that balance performance, aesthetics, construction, manufacturability, and cost.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Partner closely with Product Development, Technical Design, Sourcing, Merchandising, Marketing, Print and Graphics and 3D teams to ensure seamless product execution.

· Communicate proactively across global teams to meet seasonal calendars and milestone deadlines.

· Collaborate with Design Team to ensure consistency across categories while contributing fresh ideas and creative solutions.

Design Operations & Presentation

· Prepare presentations, seasonal design reviews, visual tools, and inspirational materials.

· Share and collaborate ideas, visions and other insights with shared teams.

· Present concepts, design rationale, and product updates to internal teams with clear visual storytelling and communication.

Team Collaboration

· Support and collaborate with Junior Designers by sharing knowledge, providing guidance on day-to-day tasks, and contributing to a positive team environment.

· Demonstrate curiosity, initiative, and a continuous desire to expand technical and creative capabilities.

· Contribute to a collaborative, innovative, and consumer-focused design culture.

Qualifications & Experience:

· Bachelor's Degree in Apparel or Fashion Design (or equivalent experience).

· 3–5+ years of experience in swimwear, activewear, performance apparel, or related categories.

· Understanding of apparel construction, fit, materials, and product development (swimwear a plus).

· Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

· Experience working with PLM systems and Microsoft Office.

· Familiarity with Ai and 3D design tools (CLO or similar) is a plus.

· Strong creative skills with the ability to interpret trends and consumer insights into commercially successful products.

· Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects within global development calendars.

· Strong communication and collaboration skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.

· Passion for performance swimwear, innovation, and consumer-centered design.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
