Job Description

Who We Are:

Creative Artists Agency (CAA) is the leading entertainment and sports agency, with global expertise in filmed and live entertainment, digital media, publishing, sponsorship sales and endorsements, media finance, consumer investing, fashion, trademark licensing, and philanthropy. Distinguished by its culture of collaboration and exceptional client service, CAA’s diverse workforce identifies, innovates, and amplifies opportunities for the people and organizations that shape culture and inspire the world. The trailblazer of the agency business, CAA was the first to build a sports business, create an investment bank, launch a venture fund, found technology start-up companies, establish a philanthropic arm, build a business in China, and form a brand marketing services division, among other innovations. Named Most Valuable Sports Agency by Forbes for eight consecutive years, CAA represents more than 2,000 of the world’s top athletes in football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, in addition to coaches, on-air broadcasters, and sports personalities and works in the areas of broadcast rights, corporate marketing initiatives, social impact, and sports properties for sales and sponsorship opportunities. Founded in 1975, CAA is headquartered in Los Angeles, and has offices in New York, Nashville, Memphis, Chicago, Miami, London, Munich, Geneva, Stockholm, Shanghai, and Beijing, among other locations globally.

About the Role:

CAA is seeking a developer with excellent software architecture and data engineering skills to join our product development team. The product development team designs and builds software experiences for mobile and web that are uniquely valuable for CAA’s diverse, global, and high- energy entertainment industry culture of agents, executives, artists, and business partners.

Responsibilities:

You and your teammates have the opportunity to work collaboratively with other developers to design and deliver data infrastructure (warehouse, schema, pipelines, data management tools) that supports CAA’s portfolio of applications and analytics. We need your help to build and maintain services and best practices for such infrastructure.

You will be able to use your software development skills in an agile environment to develop new data pipelines and APIs, and your experience with continuous delivery will sustain the end-to-end lifecycle: design, deployment, test, operations, monitoring and support. You will have the chance to directly interact with the people who are using your applications.

Languages and Frameworks:

You should be proficient in Python with at least a year of experience delivering production Python data projects to production. We welcome candidates with experience in other languages such as Ruby, PHP, or Javascript. Experience with Javascript is a plus.  It would be great for you to have experience in the Azure data stack (Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake,  Tabular Model / DAX, Azure Analysis Services) but If you have strong experience with complementary open source data technologies such as Hadoop, Amazon Glue, Spark, Airflow and so on we would love to talk to you.

Databases:

We’d like to see real SQL and NoSQL production experience. We’re particularly interested in your expertise with SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, MongoDB. Having experience talking to customers and modeling data would be a plus.  If you bring specific skills in Kafka , Cassandra, or any other cloud based warehouse let’s talk.

Tools:

You should have experience with maintaining projects using a distributed version control system such as Git and Github. Experience in automated deployment of pipelines and schema into production environments  would be great.

Techniques:

You should be experienced with agile methods and the concepts behind continuous delivery. We expect you are passionate about developing data structures, pipelines, and APIs -- so we want to see your experience with security, testing,  performance, JSON, and REST. We are eager to hear about your experience and opinions around data quality, test strategy, and test automation.

Education:

We prefer you have a BS in Computer Science, or equivalent experience, which means between one to two years of delivering production data pipelines.

Focus:

We expect you to have a passion for and experience shipping and maintaining production software products to business users. You must have strong verbal, written and visual presentation skills. We are most interested in candidates who want to work in an environment where attention to detail, solving problems, simplicity, quality, and moving quickly are highly prized.

Environment:

You can work 100% remote with occasional travel to company meetings and events. We have a service-oriented collaborative environment where teamwork and care and helping others to succeed are highly valued.

Compensation:

The annual base salary for this position is in the range of $72,000 - $91,000. This position also is eligible for benefits and discretionary bonus. Ultimately, the salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, business sector, and geographic location, among other criteria. Please talk with a CAA Recruiter to learn more.

Location:

This role is based in Los Angeles, or New York.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
