UL Solutions is seeking a Technical Sales Specialist with expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS), microgrids and distributed energy systems. This role blends technical acumen, consultative selling, and customer-facing engagement to drive growth of the HOMER software portfolio including HOMER Pro, HOMER Grid and HOMER Front. The ideal candidate excels at communicating complex concepts, presenting to diverse audiences, and closing high-value B2B opportunities.
The role can be hybrid (3 days) at a UL Solutions office in Canada or remote

Key Competencies for Position
Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. The estimated salary range for this position is $85,000 to $113,000 CAD and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 55% of the base salary.
This position also provides health benefits including dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings commensurate with the standard rewards offered in Canada. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), statutory holidays and 3 personal days and sick time off (80 hours).

RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the sales team, you will be responsible for selling and supporting the sales of HOMER Pro, Grid, and Front software to engineering firms, developers, utilities, and other firms across the industry.
Lead Generation & Business Development
- Proactively generate new leads through outreach, networking, and industry engagement. Inbound and outbound lead pursuit activities are expected.
- Provide HOMER software demonstrations, guiding prospects through relevant workflows, capabilities, and value propositions.
- Support technical scoping, solution architecture discussions, and pre-sales engineering needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers, influencers, and technical stakeholders.
Sales & Revenue Generation
- Own the full B2B sales lifecycle-from lead qualification and needs assessment to proposal development, negotiation, and closing. Internal sales support will be provided.
- Work closely with strategic customers to identify business challenges and translate them into technical solutions.
- Maintain a healthy pipeline and consistently meet or exceed quarterly and annual sales targets (KPI).
Conference & Event Representation
- Represent UL Solutions and HOMER software as a speaker or panelist at conferences, webinars, customer events, and industry workshops.
- Deliver compelling presentations that showcase thought leadership in BESS, microgrids, energy digitalization, and software innovation.
Marketing Collaboration
- Partner with the marketing team to support campaigns, contribute technical content, and refine messaging for target markets.
- Provide feedback from the field to improve product positioning, sales collateral, and go-to-market strategy.
Internal Collaboration
- Provide client feedback and requests to the product teams
- Collaborate with counterparts in other segments to identify and exploit synergies from existing clients. Establish regular channels of communication.
- Attend regular UL Solutions and team meetings.
- Contribute to the development of the strategy for HOMER software by providing input on customer needs, pain points, trends, etc., to the product team.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Strong technical background in BESS, microgrids, or distributed energy resources.
- Familiarity with BESS techno-economic design and energy market fundamentals, microgrid design software, and energy analytics software.
- Proven ability to generate leads, manage pipelines, and execute consultative sales strategies.
- Experience leading software demonstrations and communicating technical details to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated success in B2B sales, including closing complex deals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong English proficiency is a must
Preferred
- Experience giving professional presentations or public-facing talks, especially at industry events, conferences, or webinars.
- Background in engineering, renewable energy, power systems, or related technical field.
- Experience selling into utility, C&I, EPC, or energy developer markets.
- Minimum 5+ years of B2B related software sales experience
