About Vantage Data Centers

Vantage Data Centers powers, cools, protects and connects the technology of the world’s well-known hyperscalers, cloud providers and large enterprises. Developing and operating across North America, EMEA and Asia Pacific, Vantage has evolved data center design in innovative ways to deliver dramatic gains in reliability, efficiency and sustainability in flexible environments that can scale as quickly as the market demands.

Reliability Engineering

The Reliability Engineering Department is responsible for ensuring the operational health of critical systems and the implementation of Site Operations best practices. This includes evaluating the performance and reliability of critical infrastructure, maintaining operational availability through maintenance programs, and providing technical support to Site Operations teams. The department also collaborates closely with the Design Engineering team to provide feedback for future data center designs.

Position Overview

This role will be based in Atlanta, GA, following our flexible work policy (3 days in-office and 2 days flexible), or it may be based remotely anywhere within the United States.

The Sr. Technical Project Manager, Site Deployment - Electrical Design Assurance is responsible for providing operationally focused electrical review and technical assurance for new data center builds, expansions, and major fit-out projects across the North America portfolio. This role represents Site Operations and Site Deployment during design development, page-turn reviews, submittal reviews, RFI responses, commissioning strategy alignment, and movement of design packages toward Issued for Construction drawings.

The position ensures that electrical systems are designed and delivered in a manner that is operable, maintainable, safe, reliable, and aligned with long-term Mission Critical Operations requirements. Working closely with Design Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, Business Operations, and local Site Operations teams, this role brings operator perspective into electrical design decisions before construction execution, procurement, and turnover activities create downstream operational risk.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as the primary Site Deployment representative for electrical design assurance across assigned campuses, projects, and expansions.

  • Participate in design page-turn reviews and provide operator-focused comments from concept design through IFC drawing issuance.

  • Review electrical design packages, one-line diagrams, specifications, sequences of operation, equipment schedules, load studies, and drawing sets for operability, maintainability, safety, and reliability.

  • Review electrical submittals, equipment selections, vendor documentation, and proposed alternates to evaluate operational impact, maintainability requirements, protection strategy, and lifecycle risk.

  • Support responses to RFIs related to electrical distribution, equipment access, switching, redundancy, load management, protection coordination, EPMS interfaces, maintenance clearances, and long-term serviceability.

  • Evaluate value engineering proposals and design changes to ensure critical operational requirements are not removed, reduced, or compromised without appropriate risk visibility.

  • Provide technical input for electrical commissioning strategies, operational acceptance criteria, test scripts, integrated systems testing, energization plans, and turnover readiness expectations.

  • Collaborate with Site Deployment TPMs and future MCO teams to ensure electrical design intent is carried forward into construction, commissioning, training, CMMS population, and steady-state operations.

  • Capture lessons learned from active operating sites and deployment projects and feed them back into future electrical design standards, templates, and review criteria.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review electrical design milestones including 30%, 60%, 90%, IFC, bulletin, and construction revision packages.

  • Assess utility service arrangements, medium-voltage distribution, low-voltage distribution, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, fuel systems interfaces, transfer schemes, busways, panels, grounding, lightning protection, batteries, and EPMS architecture.

  • Validate maintenance access, equipment clearances, working space, switching paths, isolation strategy, arc flash considerations, labeling, redundancy philosophy, and operational workflows within electrical spaces.

  • Track design review comments, assigned actions, and open electrical issues through closure with Design Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, and Site Operations stakeholders.

  • Participate in recurring design coordination meetings, page turns, constructability reviews, operability reviews, energization planning, and commissioning planning sessions.

  • Review MEP coordination impacts where electrical systems interface with mechanical, controls, fire protection, security, architectural, structural, civil, and utility scopes.

  • Provide operator perspective on sequence of operations, switching procedures, alarm strategy, metering, trending capability, EPMS points, electrical safety requirements, and emergency operating scenarios.

  • Review proposed equipment substitutions or manufacturer deviations for potential impacts to maintainability, spare parts, training, warranty, resilience, and operational standardization.

  • Support development of operational design standards, electrical review checklists, lessons learned repositories, and acceptance criteria used by the Site Deployment organization.

  • Partner with local MCO leadership to ensure future operators understand electrical design intent, operating limitations, maintenance requirements, and known risk items prior to turnover.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in data center operations, electrical engineering, commissioning, critical facilities maintenance, construction QA/QC, or mission-critical infrastructure delivery.

  • Strong working knowledge of data center electrical systems, including utility service, MV/LV distribution, switchgear, UPS, generators, transfer schemes, grounding, batteries, EPMS, and supporting systems.

  • Experience reviewing electrical drawings, one-lines, specifications, submittals, commissioning documents, sequences of operation, coordination studies, and technical vendor documentation.

  • Ability to identify operability, maintainability, reliability, electrical safety, lifecycle, and resilience risks within electrical design packages before construction execution.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate operator concerns to Design Engineering, Construction, Commissioning, and Site Operations stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, track comments and issues to closure, and support fixed project milestones.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with project documentation, drawing management, and issue tracking workflows.

  • Ability to travel up to 40% within North America based on project and site needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Facilities Management, or related field; or equivalent mission-critical experience.

  • Professional experience in hyperscale data center design, operations, commissioning, or construction delivery.

  • Experience with EPMS/BMS coordination, electrical commissioning, integrated systems testing, energization planning, or operational acceptance programs.

  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices, critical spares strategy, reliability-centered maintenance, and operational readiness requirements for large-scale data center deployments.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
