Our mission at Oura is to empower every person to own their inner potential. Our award-winning products help our global community gain a deeper knowledge of their readiness, activity, and sleep quality by using their Oura Ring and its connected app. We've helped millions of people understand and improve their health by providing daily insights and practical steps to inspire healthy lifestyles.

Empowering the world starts with living our values and empowering our team. As a quickly growing company focused on helping people live healthier and happier lives, we ensure that our team members have what they need to do their best work — both in and out of the office.

We’re looking for a Technical Project Manager to join our Science team in the United States. In this role, you'll manage the cross-functional R&D process behind new health sensing capabilities — partnering with Science, Hardware, Firmware, Software, and Product to keep complex programs on track from planning through execution.

What You Will Do:
  • Own integrated project plans for R&D efforts — timelines, milestones, risks, dependencies, and decision paths for Science.
  • Partner with scientists, technical and program managers, and functional leaders to translate scientific and sensing needs into clear requirements, interfaces, and escalation paths — working with technical leads to resolve ambiguous or high-judgment calls.
  • Coordinate hand-offs across teams and negotiate commitments people can actually hit.
  • Apply working knowledge of algorithm development practices and hardware build-and-test cycles to spot readiness gaps across testing, validation, and readiness reviews, and turn them into concrete, actionable requirements in partnership with the relevant technical owner.
  • Surface risks early and drive decisions to closure across R&D initiatives.
  • Maintain clear ownership and change tracking for protocols, specifications, and readiness criteria within your program's scope.
  • Contribute to improving how Science runs projects — cutting duplication, standardizing only where it reduces friction.

This is a remote US role with a slight preference for candidates based in San Francisco or San Diego.

What you'll bring
  • 4+ years leading scientific or technical projects, with clear ownership of milestones, dependencies, risks, and cross-functional execution within a defined program scope.
  • Experience managing projects in a scientific, engineering, or product-validation environment; human-subjects research and/or wearable tech experience is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of algorithm development practices and hardware build-and-test cycles sufficient to spot readiness gaps across testing, validation, and readiness reviews and translate them into concrete requirements — with support from technical leads on ambiguous or high-stakes calls.
  • Comfortable negotiating timelines against real team capacity, clarifying ownership, and pushing back constructively.
  • Experience working across international, distributed teams — including flexing hours to collaborate with European colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a track record of clear documentation — decision logs, risk registers, readiness trackers, or similar artifacts that keep cross-functional teams aligned without you in the room.
  • Technical degree, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong technical fluency in a scientific/engineering environment.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
