This role requires a candidate with a strong technical foundation—particularly in the space domain—and a deep understanding of data flows, user workflows, and how these intersect to create scalable, defense mission products.

You will work directly with the US Space Force and other USG customers to define requirements and drive strategic capability development. You will own the implementation strategy, translating user needs into detailed product requirements, working closely with engineers to deliver capabilities that meet user needs. Your ability to think like a user while speaking the language of developers will be key to your success.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Partner with customers, business development, and engineers to define product functionality, shaping scope where requirements are thin or evolving, and prioritize features based on business goals and technical feasibility
  • Engage directly with the US Government to align expectations, continually solicit feedback, and earn trust to partner with the customer to guide the roadmap
  • Own scope trade-offs between product vision and delivery capacity, making prioritization calls when needed
  • Create clear, actionable requirements, epics, and other specifications that guide engineering execution
  • Map and document user workflows, data flows, and system dependencies to ensure a full-stack understanding of product behavior
  • Define and track success metrics, gathering feedback and iterating quickly to improve outcomes
  • Partner with technical program management and engineering leadership to keep the backlog aligned to current priorities
  • Provide transparent, concise program updates to executives and partners with clarity and technical precision through documentation, dashboards, and presentations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6+ years of product management or technical product ownership experience
  • Proven experience working directly with external customers and earning trust with peers
  • Experience delivering against competitive, milestone/demo-based government contracts (down-selects, phased prototype OTAs, etc.)
  • Experience working with cloud-deployed architectures, containerized software, web-based applications, developer tools, and data products
  • Ability to visualize and communicate complex data and user workflows
  • Experience writing technical documentation, PRDs, or system specifications
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development practices
  • Technical background (e.g., degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant work experience)
  • U.S. Citizen

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of the US Space Force’s approach to Battle Management and associated doctrines
  • Knowledge of the ATO process and NIST Risk Management Framework
  • Hands-on experience with cloud deployments, containerized software, web applications, or similar platforms/infrastructure/applications
  • Background in systems engineering or technical program management
  • Experience working on space-related programs (e.g., Battle Management, SDA, satellite operations, RPO training, or electronic warfare)
  • Active or eligible for DoD Secret or TS/SCI clearance

COMPENSATION

  • Base Salary: $135,000-$235,000
  • Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
