DigitalOcean's Tax team is looking for a Tax Senior to join a growing function that sits at the intersection of indirect tax compliance and credits & incentives. In this role, you will act as the lead for sales and use tax compliance, planning, and controversy work while also identifying and pursuing federal and state credits and incentives tied to investment, innovation, and R&D activity. This is an opportunity to build cross-functional expertise across two high-impact areas of corporate tax, working closely with Finance, Legal, and business teams to reduce risk and capture value for the company. This position reports to the Director, Indirect Tax.
What You'll DoSales & Use Tax- Monitor and advise on indirect tax law changes and their impact on the business
- Identify opportunities for tax optimization, exposure reduction, and refund recovery
- Support remediation, controversies, and corrective filings related to indirect tax
- Support technology transformation and process improvement initiatives for indirect tax

- Manage engagements involving the sales and use tax exemptions and incentives related to Data Center operations and other state credit programs (e.g., New Markets Tax Credit, Qualified Opportunity Zones, etc.)
- Identify eligible company activities, gather and analyze supporting documentation, and assist in preparing claims and filings
- Prepare and review deliverables including calculations, tax forms, memoranda, executive summaries, and audit response support
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and flag opportunities for new incentives or process improvements
- Define and execute deliverables, track project status, and maintain reporting on tax initiatives
- Build working relationships across Infrastructure, Finance, Legal, and business teams
- Coordinate day-to-day workstreams and provide guidance across various teams
- Research the company's business operations to tailor tax strategies to its specific needs
- Communicate potential opportunities and risks clearly to internal stakeholders
- Liaise with external parties including tax advisors and state and local authorities
- Strong technical knowledge across sales/use tax and credits & incentives disciplines
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team

- 3+ years of experience in sales and use tax

- Experience preparing technical analyses, credit calculations, tax forms, memoranda, executive summaries, or audit response materials
- Public accounting experience or equivalent
- Experience with state and local credits and incentives programs
- Experience with tax research tools (CCH, Hein, Lexis, or RIA)
- Experience with data center tax incentives
- Licensed CPA (or CPA-eligible)/Licensed attorney/Enrolled Agent
- $80,800 - $101,000
