We are seeking a Tax Director to join our team, with a specialized focus on not-for-profit tax, particularly private foundations. This is a highly technical leadership role offering the opportunity to serve as a subject matter expert in private foundation tax, supporting complex compliance and consulting engagements while partnering closely with firm leadership. This role plays a critical part in supporting and expanding the firm’s private foundation client base by delivering deep technical expertise and scalable solutions.

This role can sit in any one of our office locations nationally.

What Work You Will be Responsible For:

  • Serve as a technical leader and subject matter expert in not-for-profit tax, with a focus on private foundations and related entities

  • Lead and review complex tax compliance engagements, including Form 990-PF and related filings, ensuring technical accuracy and quality

  • Proactively advise internal teams and clients on private foundation tax matters, including excise taxes, distribution requirements, self-dealing rules, and governance considerations

  • Partner with engagement teams, client-facing partners, and senior stakeholders to deliver integrated tax solutions and provide technical expertise on complex issues

  • Oversee and manage multiple engagements, including planning, execution, staffing, and delivery, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met

  • Serve as a go-to resource for complex private foundation tax matters, providing guidance on nuanced regulatory and compliance issues across engagements

  • Identify and resolve complex tax issues and provide practical, solution-oriented guidance

  • Mentor and develop tax professionals, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the tax practice

  • Collaborate across service lines to support cross-functional client needs, including advisory, audit, and broader tax services

  • Stay current on evolving tax legislation and regulatory developments impacting not-for-profit organizations and private foundations

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

  • CPA required

  • 10+ years of progressive tax experience within public accounting

  • Demonstrated deep expertise in not-for-profit tax, including private foundations, Form 990/990-PF, excise taxes, and related compliance requirements

  • Experience reviewing complex tax returns and managing engagements end-to-end

  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Taxation, Accounting or related field

  • Experience in contributing to practice development, training, and technical thought leadership
