Systems Engineer/ Principal Systems Engineer - Operations Analysis
Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Systems Engineer - Operations Analysis to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.
Essential Functions:
- Model operational environments, perform trade studies via computer simulation.
- Performs operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis.
- Create and apply knowledge of Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) to support blue/red kill chains across multiple security environments, programs, architectures, and platforms.
- Provide blue/red tactics and CONOPS modeling, simulation, and analysis in mission-level models to help accomplish long-term objectives related to program development, execution, and related research and development projects.
- Perform mission engineering activities to ensure continuity between desired operational capabilities and delivered system performance, through the Systems Engineering “V”. Ensure performance capabilities of new systems and architectures are traded against cost and mission requirements; develop operationally relevant mission scenarios; assess operational effectiveness of existing and emerging systems and capabilities in representative operational environments.
- Solicit input from various stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to various levels of leadership
- Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to include project/analysis lead experience are necessary for success in the role
There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 25% may be required. Role can be filled at either the systems engineer level or the principal systems engineer level depending on criteria below.
Basic Qualifications:
- Systems Engineer: Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field and 2 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM field
- Principal Systems Engineer: Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM field and 5 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master of Science degree in a STEM field 3 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and 1 year of relevant military / professional experience
- Experience with coding in MATLAB or Python
- Experience in at least one of the following domains:
- Research, analysis, and assessment threats to U.S. military operations
- Vehicle performance analysis
- Navigation / Position Navigation & Timing (PNT)
- Survivability, lethality, vulnerability, engagement, or mission‑level analysis
- Electronic Attack (EA), Electronic Protection (EP), Electronic Countermeasures
- Red or blue CONOPS and TTPs
- Experience developing capability within system of systems modeling tools such as AFSIM, Suppressor, or Brawler.
- Experience developing physics-based models and simulations using Object Oriented programming.
- Must have an active U.S. Government Secret Clearance or higher (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- An ability to work with a team in a rapid prototyping environment.
- Familiarity with AGILE, MBSE, and/or system architecture.
- Operational military background or experience
- Experience with version control tools (Bitbucket, GitHub, Gitlab, etc.).
- A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance with current or previous Special Program Access (SAP)/SCI.
- Computer/engineering skills using C#/C++, JAVA, or other object-oriented programming languages.
- Modeling and Simulation of Radars, Missiles, Integrated Air Defense Systems (IADS), Air and/or Space platforms
