The Systems Engineer performs system-level engineering work supporting the company's SATCOM and In-Flight Connectivity (IFC) product lines, including requirements definition and verification, system and sub-system design and analysis, use case definition, and interface design, in collaboration with external partners such as airlines, managed service providers, and equipment suppliers. This is an experienced systems designer with extensive Life-Cycle development experience who is the natural technical reference, internally and with external partners, on complex system engineering questions.

Deep technical knowledge, sound systems-engineering judgment, and a willingness to learn are required. The preparation, maintenance, and control of company technical documentation is also part of this role's responsibilities, and the position may provide work leadership by training, assigning, and monitoring the work of junior systems engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer, OEM, and product needs into system, sub-system, and equipment requirements, including aircraft (A/C) integration considerations for IFC and SATCOM products
  • Perform high-level system and sub-system design, including A/C integration, and consult with users to determine hardware, software, or system functional specifications
  • Create and maintain Use Cases, requirement documents, and system architecture using Use Cases and other proven systems-engineering methods
  • Analyze and verify that designs meet requirements, and that sub-system to sub-system interfaces are consistent and correctly designed
  • Perform detailed analysis and propose design solutions to resolve system problems, applying systems-engineering principles tailored to the system, customer, and development organization
  • Prepare System and Component Level documents (Requirements, Design Description, Safety/Reliability/Maintainability, System Interconnect Diagrams, Outline Drawings, etc.)
  • Consult with end users and customers to validate that designs meet client needs; participate in the creation and presentation of design reviews, both internal and customer-facing
  • Manage technical projects and work packages, including R&D projects as required
  • Work closely with external suppliers, customers, managed service providers, and other stakeholders
  • Support system and acceptance testing activities
  • Train and mentor junior systems engineers and development staff on company products and systems-engineering process and application, to increase productivity, quality, and consistency
  • Scout the market for novel relevant technologies, initiate investigation, and drive potential adoption into company products
  • Use standardized analysis techniques, document formats, and design review formats to reinforce consistent application of the systems-engineering process
  • Continuously contribute to improving established processes
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
  • System Engineering Master of Science Degree and/or INCOSE certification welcome but not mandatory
  • 6-10+ years of experience working in a complex systems-engineering role, ideally within SATCOM, In-Flight Connectivity, or related aerospace/communications systems
  • Full competence in systems-engineering techniques across the product life cycle
  • Experience with requirements management tools, Application Lifecycle Management (Polarion ALM preffered) tools, and/or model-based systems-engineering tools (preferred)
  • Experience managing multilevel requirements sets (preferred)
  • Experience with AutoCAD for outline drawings of LRUs (preferred)
  • IP networking knowledge
  • Satellite communications knowledge
  • Ability to support system and acceptance testing

Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $112,000 - 169,000 per year and reflects multiple levels within the role. Final level and compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

In addition to a comprehensive package of health benefits that include company contributions, RAVE Aerospace offers a variety of additional benefits and perks to enhance your work-life balance experience, including but not limited to:

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
