Position Summary

The Lead Systems Architect within the Systems Architecture & Engineering (SAE) organization serves as Vertiv’s technical authority for system‑level architecture supporting hyperscale and strategic customers. This role owns the definition, integration, and validation of end‑to‑end data center infrastructure architectures—ensuring technical coherence across product lines and alignment with customer requirements, standards, and long‑term roadmaps.

The Lead Systems Architect operates above individual products, driving system intent, architectural consistency, and technical decision‑making across AC power, DC power, controls, and energy storage solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end system architecture for complex data center power and infrastructure solutions
  • Serve as Vertiv’s primary technical authority and architect for assigned strategic and hyperscale customers
  • Define system architectures, design principles, and integration models across multiple product lines
  • Translate customer requirements, standards, and use cases into scalable, repeatable system architectures
  • Lead technical alignment across Product Lines, Engineering, Quality, and Operations
  • Partner with Technical Program Managers to ensure architectures are executed as designed
  • Drive system‑level trade studies, technical decisions, and architectural risk assessments
  • Represent Vertiv in senior‑level customer technical discussions, architecture reviews, and roadmap planning
  • Ensure system architectures align with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks
  • Support development of reference architectures, white papers, and thought leadership materials within SAE

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in systems architecture, power systems engineering, or complex infrastructure design
  • Deep technical experience in data center power systems and infrastructure
  • Proven ability to operate at system level across multiple technologies and product lines
  • Strong customer‑facing experience with executive and senior technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated technical leadership in matrixed, global organizations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting hyperscale data center or AI infrastructure architectures
  • Background spanning AC power, DC power, controls, and/or energy storage systems
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (e.g., NEC, UL, IEEE, IEC, ISO)
  • Experience developing reference architectures or platform‑level system designs
  • Advanced degree in engineering or related field

Key Competencies

  • System‑level thinking and architectural judgment
  • Strong technical ownership and decision‑making authority
  • Ability to influence without direct organizational control
  • Clear, concise communication with executive and customer audiences
  • Disciplined approach to risk identification and mitigation

Travel

  • Up to 30% global travel to customer sites and Vertiv engineering locations

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
