Description

About the role

You'll be the connective tissue of our engineering team — owning the system-level architecture, requirements, and integration strategy across hardware, software, and mechanical subsystems. Our products are safety-critical, field-deployed systems built to demanding performance and reliability requirements. This role requires someone who can hold the big picture while diving into subsystem details when it matters.

What you'll do:

  • Own the system-level architecture: define how hardware, software, and mechanical subsystems interact, and document it in a way the whole team can build against.
  • Develop and maintain system requirements — derive subsystem requirements, manage traceability, and own the requirements baseline.
  • Lead integration planning: define interfaces, manage dependencies across subsystems, and coordinate bring-up and qualification activities.
  • Drive system-level verification and validation — test planning, execution, anomaly resolution, and sign-off.
  • Identify and track system-level risks; develop mitigations before they become fielding problems.
  • Serve as the technical lead in design reviews, interface control discussions, and customer/government technical meetings.
  • Translate operational requirements and customer needs into actionable engineering constraints.

Required:

  • 8+ years of systems engineering experience on defense, aerospace, robotics, or other complex, safety-critical programs.
  • Deep understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle: requirements development, architecture, ICD management, V&V planning, and qualification.
  • Experience managing interfaces across hardware, embedded software, and mechanical subsystems.
  • Comfort reading and authoring engineering documentation: interface control documents, test plans, hazard analyses, and SSPs.
  • Proven ability to lead technical coordination across a multidisciplinary team.
  • Working English, written and verbal.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with DoD acquisition programs, MIL-STD-882 (system safety), or MIL-STD-461/810.
  • Background in UAV systems, autonomous systems, or defense payload integration.
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools (Cameo, Rhapsody, or similar).
  • Experience supporting government program reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) or formal qualification events.
  • Active security clearance or eligibility.

How we work: You'll work across the full team — hardware, software, and mechanical — and be the person who catches integration problems before they reach the test range. We expect clear documentation, decisive recommendations, and the ability to hold a technical position under scrutiny.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
