About Giga

Giga builds the electrical infrastructure that powers the modern world. We manufacture transformers, switchboards, and modular data centers for customers across the United States and the globe. Together, our team combines fresh perspectives with deep industry experience to solve real-world problems for our customers. We move fast and think practically. If you're ready to make an impact in an industry that matters, we're looking for people like you.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Switchboard Engineer to join our Houston-based engineering team. In this role, you’ll be the bridge between U.S. customer requirements and our manufacturing operations in China, owning the customization and delivery of switchboard designs from concept to manufacturing release. You’ll leverage your CAD expertise and deep knowledge of UL 891 standards to develop mechanical and electrical prints that meet rigorous quality and safety benchmarks. If you thrive in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment and enjoy bringing electrical infrastructure to life, this is the role for you.

Where you’ll work

If based outside of our Houston, Long Beach or San Francisco hubs, this role will be based remotely from your home office. You must be willing to occasionally travel to one of our hub offices 3 days out of the month.

Responsibilities

  • Customize switchboard designs based on customer specifications and project requirements
  • Work with our product and engineering teams in China to translate designs into accurate manufacturing prints
  • Create detailed mechanical and electrical CAD drawings in SolidWorks, adhering to UL 891 and other applicable standards
  • Maintain up-to-date design documentation and clearly communicate changes to relevant stakeholders
  • Review and verify all drawings to ensure clarity, manufacturability, and alignment with technical requirements
  • Troubleshoot design issues during production in collaboration with China-based manufacturing teams
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously and deliver on deadlines
  • Communicate effectively across time zones to align technical deliverables and resolve any issues quickly

Requirements

  • Degree or certification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in a sheet metal manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks
  • Demonstrated experience designing UL 891-compliant low-voltage switchboards
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, tolerances, and material specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially when coordinating with international teams
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects at once

Bonus points

  • Familiarity with North American electrical and manufacturing standards
  • Experience using PDM systems for CAD file management
  • Background working with international or cross-functional teams in a startup or fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of modular data center or infrastructure products

Benefits

  • Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Equity (options) in a rapidly growing startup
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Parental leave
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Commuter benefits
  • Monthly team onsites where all offices come in–person to collaborate

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
