The Role 

Reporting to the Manager of Development Engineering, the Engineering Intern will have the opportunity to work with both the Civil and Development Engineering teams. The Intern will develop a strong cross-disciplinary understanding of utility scale energy development and construction. This position will support projects throughout project inception, design development, permitting, optimization, EPC contractor bidding, financial closing, and construction management. 

  • Develop project site plans and progress site design based on publicly available data and site specific topographical, geotechnical, and environmental surveys. 
  • Manage the technical inputs and processing of project energy yield models. 
  • Develop the project single line diagram. 
  • Develop and produce exhibits utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D. 
  • Manage the technical inputs to the cost estimate, including performing Civil due diligence and site plan review to produce construction quantities. 
  • Support the development of bid packages and project technical specifications during the EPC contracting RFP and award process. 
  • Support the Supply Chain team in the technical review and qualification of new suppliers, supplier and equipment evaluation at the project level, and technical support in the contracting and purchasing process. 

 

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Working on MS or BS degree in engineering from an accredited university required, EE, CE or other related engineering discipline 
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering design requirements in the utility scale solar energy and battery energy storage highly preferred 
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail 
  • Ability to work both independently and as a part of team, knowing when to seek help 
  • Project and case management skills including a strong aptitude for managing and prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines, including contract management 
  • Flexibility to modify course in real-time in response to fluid facts and circumstances 
  • Proactive and solution-focused communication skills which extend across all organizational and management levels 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD systems. 
  • Experience with ArcMap or GIS is a plus.  

Locations: The preferred location for this role is one of our offices. We have offices in Durham, NC; Washington, DC; NYC; Chicago, IL, Asheville, NC; Los Angeles, CA; and San Francisco, CA. Additionally, we are on a hybrid schedule 3/week.

Compensation: The hourly rate for our undergraduate internships is $25/hr.  Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location.
