Your Role
 
As a Summer Climate Action Intern in Gensler’s Los Angeles office, you will join our Climate Action & Sustainability team for a full-time, paid internship opportunity. You will work with the Climate Action and Sustainability team to support sustainable consulting services and climate action strategies on projects. The project work, ranging from certification, strategy, and analytics, helps organizations and communities achieve carbon targets and sustainability goals. 

This is a full-time program running from June 3 through August 8, 2025. You must be available for the entire duration of the program. This is not a remote position.

What You Will Do

You will work primarily in support of Gensler’s efforts to participate in consulting engagements that provide sustainability strategies for a wide range of world class clients and projects ranging from commercial interiors to ground up buildings and real estate portfolios. You will support tasks related to the project's sustainability goals through documenting green building certification processes, quantifying materials for embodied carbon analysis, material selections, and design strategies.  

  • Support process of the LEED Design and Construction credits for projects in Core & Shell, New Construction and Interiors rating systems

  • Document and coordinate LEED credits for review by GBCI

  • Engage project teams to perform project Embodied Carbon Assessments (interior and whole building)

  • Participate in work sessions with clients and design teams to facilitate greater understanding of product selection impacts and opportunities.

  • Participate in the coordination with project design and consultant teams to provide sustainable product selection guidance and technical support, participating in client meetings when necessary

  • Contribute to daylight modeling, energy analysis, and resource efficiency studies using Climate Studio

  • Identify and maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies, tools, and methods as they impact the delivery of green building design 

  • Research Federal, State, and local regulations and incentives and provide guidance to clients 

Your Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a degree in sustainable building, architecture, engineering, interiors or related field

  • You have completed your third year of an undergraduate program or first year of a graduate program and are returning to your program post-internship. This internship is not for recent graduates

  • Knowledge of and interest in healthy and sustainable building material attributes and certifications.

  • Knowledge of embodied carbon research, lifecycle assessment processes, and environmental product declaration data

  • Knowledge of material health concerns

  • Familiarity with third-party ingredient disclosures and hazard screenings.

  • Significant interest in and aptitude for sustainable design, certifications, and learning about project management, and client relationships

  • Knowledge of building systems, sustainable materials, and consultant coordination

  • Ability to perform technical analysis is a plus (e.g. energy and daylighting simulation, specification writing, materials selection, cost and life cycle studies, etc.)

  • Resourceful, self-motivated, enthusiastic team player

  • A sense of humor and a knack for innovation and problem solving, and a collaborative, solutions-oriented working style

Technical Skills

  • Proficient user of third-party product information databases ​

  • Proficient user of LEED Online, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and InDesign

  • Familiarity with project management tools or willingness to learn

  • Familiarity with Climate Studio, Ladybug Tools and basic proficiency with Revit

  • Familiarity with LCA tools such as One Click Studio, Tally, etc.

  • Familiarity with digital collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, and willingness to learn others such as Miro and/or Mural
