POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Healthy Living Director, the small group trainer, strength and conditioning instructor and personal trainer will have the primary responsibility for building relationships with the members and for instructing the to exercise, according to accepted YMCA fitness standards and guidelines, to help members reach their health and fitness goals. Personal trainers will costumize individual programs to accommodate members needs, injuries and desired outcomes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The small group trainers deliver fun and exciting workouts designed for groups of up to 16 members. In the SGT classes, our trainers are educating and guiding members on proper form, introducing new exercises and delivering high energy classes. SFT workouts re conducted in circuit training format involving movements such as kettlebell swings, TRX work, barbell movements, resistance bands, hurdles, ladders, ropes, dumbbells and more. Essential duties include: running SGT workouts. Energizes and motivates members. Helps maintain and build class attendance. Can modify, regress or advance movements to fit each client’s skill level. Comfortable leading workouts for groups with up to 10 members.
  • The Strength & Conditioning instructor and the personal trainer is responsible for helping members throughout the facility, provide member relations, instruction on how to utilize the equipment, supplying information about the YMCA program, activities, policies and procedures, as well as keeping workout areas neat at all times.
  • The small group trainers, personal trainer and the strength & conditioning instructor is responsible for providing members with a clean, hazard-free and pleasant environment at the YMCA of the Foothills.
  • The small group trainer, personal trainer and the strength & conditioning instructor is expected to provide leadership that keeps the YMCA in the forefront of the healthy lifestyle and service industry.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures including but not limited to medical and disciplinary situations, emergencies, dress guidelines and cleanliness standards.
  • Maintains positive relations and rapport with members, staff and volunteers at all time.
  • Supports other staff and volunteers through good communication skills.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Position requires a friendly, enthusiastic and conscientious leader with excellent knowledge and skill in the areas of health and fitness and has effective communication skills.
  • Minimum 1 year experience instructing small group programs and working with members one on one.
  • Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED, and First Aid
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to attract, retain, lead, and motivate members and staff
  • Must set an excellent example of health, fitness and customer service
  • A YMCA, ACE, AFAA and ACSM Exercise leader certification is required and must be maintained throughout employment. TRX certification is a plus.
