As Strategic Finance Lead, you'll shape growth strategy, manage financial planning, and influence executive decision-making through data-driven insights.
The summary above was generated by AI

Vannevar is a defense technology company building AI to deter our adversaries. In the 21st century, conflict moves at algorithmic speed and foresight equals firepower. Our agentic AI is purpose-built to compete with China—from cross-Strait conflict to gray zone coercion. Trained on the most mission-relevant datasets in defense, our technology models adversary behavior, simulates campaigns, and recommends the best course of action to decision makers. Our AI systems are some of the most trusted in the industry and actively used on the front lines of the Indo-Pacific to keep the peace and save lives.

Exceptional technology starts with exceptional people. Vannevar is a small agile team combining world-class engineers with veteran strategists who bring deep expertise in defense and tradecraft. We’re building a company defined by mission impact, user empathy, and disciplined growth. In just three years, we grew from $3M to $80M in ARR, achieved early profitability, and reached unicorn status—proving that disruption doesn’t require an ego, and staying power doesn’t mean standing still.

About the role

As the strategic finance lead, you’ll help shape the company’s growth trajectory, resource allocation, and long-term financial strategy. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, operations, and finance - partnering closely with executive leadership to turn company priorities into clear financial plans and tradeoffs.
You’ll own high-leverage analyses that guide where we invest, how we scale, and how we measure success. This is a high-ownership role for someone who enjoys operating in ambiguity, building frameworks from first principles, and influencing senior decision-making in a fast-moving environment.

What you’ll do
  • Strategic Planning & Capital Allocation
    • Own financial planning and modeling that informs company strategy, headcount growth, and investment priorities.
    • Evaluate tradeoffs across growth initiatives, resourcing decisions, and new bets to maximize long-term value.
    • Build and maintain multi-year financial models that connect strategy to outcomes.
    • Support board- and investor-level planning, including scenario analysis and downside / upside planning.
  • Revenue, Pricing & Growth Strategy
    • Partner with sales, capture, and product leadership to shape pricing, packaging, and contract structures aligned with strategic goals.
    • Develop financial frameworks to assess new products, customer segments, and go-to-market motions.
    • Translate operating metrics into clear insights that guide growth decisions.
    • Design scalable reporting that ties revenue performance to strategic intent.
  • Executive Partnership & Decision Support
    • Serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership, providing clear, opinionated financial perspectives.
    • Build analyses and narratives that support executive decisions, board discussions, and internal alignment.
    • Help define and track the metrics that matter most for long-term enterprise value.
  • Financial Infrastructure in support of strategy
    • Partner with the finance and accounting team to ensure systems, controls, and reporting scale with the business.
    • Drive automation and process improvements that reduce friction and enable faster decision-making.
    • Ensure financial data is accurate, timely, and useful—not just compliant.
What we’re looking for
  • 7+ years of experience in strategic finance, FP&A, corporate strategy, or similar roles in high-growth environments.
  • Strong financial modeling and planning skills; comfortable building models from scratch.
  • Deep understanding of SaaS and/or government contracting economics.
  • Track record of influencing senior stakeholders with data-driven insights.
  • Ability to move fluidly between strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
  • Low-ego, high-ownership mindset; thrives in ambiguity and rapid iteration.
What we offerCompetitive Salary

The salary range for this position is $200,000-$240,000 + equity. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, relevant education, and/or training.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
