Overview

At AmTrust Financial Services, we are expanding our internal strategic consulting capabilities to accelerate execution across enterprise strategic projects, AI, automation, and operations transformation priorities. The Strategic Consultant, AI & Operations Transformation will partner with business, Operations, Claims, Product, IT, Data, and executive stakeholders to define future-state “North Star” visions for priority workflows and strategic initiatives, benchmark AI and automation opportunities against those North Stars, and translate high-priority business objectives into executable plans with measurable outcomes.

This role is designed for a high-performing consultant with prior experience at a management consulting firm who can bring structured problem-solving, process redesign expertise, analytical rigor, and executive-ready communication to complex transformation efforts. The successful candidate will help AmTrust evaluate business initiatives, identify AI and automation opportunities, redesign workflows, define measurement frameworks, and ensure initiatives progress from concept to deployment, adoption, and measurable value realization.

This is an internal management consulting role focused on shaping direction, creating clarity, improving operating models, and enabling execution across high-priority strategic, AI, and operations transformation initiatives.

This position is hybrid out of any AmTrust office. 4 days in the office, 1 day work from home.

Responsibilities

North Star Development & Strategic Alignment

· Partner with business and functional leaders to define clear future-state North Stars for priority operational workflows, capabilities, and AI-enabled transformation opportunities.

· Translate strategic objectives into future-state process designs, operating model implications, capability requirements, value drivers, and measurable outcomes.

· Establish clear design principles for AI and automation initiatives, including where work should be automated, augmented, simplified, eliminated, or redesigned.

· Ensure initiative-level recommendations are aligned with enterprise priorities, operational realities, customer outcomes, risk considerations, and long-term scalability.

· Develop executive-ready materials that articulate the current-state challenge, future-state North Star, transformation path, expected benefits, key decisions, and tradeoffs.

AI Initiative Benchmarking & Portfolio Alignment

· Assess AI and automation initiatives against defined North Stars to determine strategic alignment, completeness, sequencing, scalability, and expected business impact.

· Identify gaps between current initiatives and the desired future-state operating model, including missing capabilities, process dependencies, adoption risks, technology constraints, and measurement gaps.

· Prioritize AI initiatives based on strategic fit, value potential, feasibility, readiness, risk, and contribution to the North Star.

· Develop recommendations on whether initiatives should proceed, pause, pivot, scale, consolidate, or be redesigned.

· Support portfolio-level governance by maintaining a clear view of how individual AI initiatives contribute to broader transformation objectives and measurable business outcomes.

Business Initiative Evaluation & Deployment Readiness

· Evaluate Operations and business-led initiatives to determine whether objectives, scope, deployment plans, owners, dependencies, risks, adoption plans, and success measures are clearly defined.

· Partner with business sponsors to clarify problem statements, desired outcomes, operating model impacts, workflow changes, change-management needs, and implementation milestones.

· Identify gaps in deployment readiness and recommend practical actions to improve execution confidence.

· Support the creation of initiative charters, roadmaps, governance routines, milestone plans, stakeholder communication materials, and executive updates.

· Help ensure initiatives have clear handoffs across business owners, Product Owners, IT delivery teams, analytics teams, and operational leaders.

Process Redesign in an Automation Context

· Lead current-state workflow assessments to identify inefficiencies, manual work, rework, variation, control gaps, bottlenecks, and opportunities for AI-enabled or automation-enabled redesign.

· Redesign business processes with a clear understanding of how automation, AI, data, workflow tools, and human decision points should interact in the future state.

· Distinguish between processes that should be automated as-is and processes that require redesign before automation.

· Develop future-state process flows, business rules, exception paths, control considerations, role impacts, and operational handoff requirements.

· Partner with Product, IT, Data, and operational stakeholders to translate redesigned workflows into business requirements, product requirements, and technical requirements for delivery teams.

Measurement Framework & Benefits Realization

· Develop measurement frameworks to quantify the business impact of AI, automation, and transformation initiatives.

· Define KPIs, baseline metrics, target outcomes, benefit assumptions, value drivers, and tracking mechanisms in partnership with business and analytics teams.

· Support financial and operational impact sizing, including productivity, cycle time, quality, service, leakage reduction, control improvement, cost reduction, and customer experience measures.

· Create executive-ready reporting that clearly communicates progress, risks, outcomes, and decision needs.

· Monitor post-deployment performance and help determine whether initiatives are delivering intended value relative to the North Star.

Cross-Functional Execution & Stakeholder Partnership

· Support execution across the broader AI initiative portfolio by tracking multiple products, pilots, deployments, dependencies, and business outcomes.

· Maintain visibility into initiative status, key decisions, risks, blockers, milestones, and value realization progress.

· Facilitate working sessions with business and technical teams to drive alignment, issue resolution, and next-step accountability.

· Build trusted partnerships with business leaders, operational managers, Product Owners, IT teams, developers, analytics teams, and executive stakeholders.

· Communicate complex business, operational, and technical topics in a simple, structured, and executive-ready manner.

· Proactively surface risks, tradeoffs, open questions, and recommended decisions.

· Serve as a credible internal consultant who brings independent thinking while remaining practical, collaborative, and execution-oriented.

Qualifications

Required Experience

· 3-5 years’ experience at a top-tier management consulting firm, Big 4 advisory practice, or specialized transformation consulting firm.

· Experience redesigning business processes in an automation, AI, digital transformation, or technology-enabled operating model context.

· Demonstrated ability to use structured problem-solving to frame ambiguous business problems, conduct current-state assessments, identify root causes, and develop actionable recommendations.

· Experience assessing workflows, identifying improvement opportunities, and translating process redesign into practical implementation requirements.

· Experience developing future-state operating models, capability maps, initiative roadmaps, transformation plans, or strategic recommendations.

· Experience defining KPIs, baselines, success measures, value drivers, or benefits-realization frameworks.

· Experience working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams across business, operations, product, technology, data, or analytics.

· Strong analytical skills, including the ability to synthesize data, identify patterns, quantify impact, and communicate insights.

· Strong executive communication skills, including presentation development, written synthesis, senior-level storytelling, and clear articulation of tradeoffs and recommendations.

· Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.

Skills and Competencies

· Structured problem-solving and hypothesis-driven analysis.

· Ability to create clarity in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

· Strong process redesign capability, particularly in automation-enabled or AI-enabled contexts.

· Ability to define future-state North Stars and translate them into practical execution roadmaps.

· Ability to benchmark initiatives against strategic objectives, target-state workflows, and measurable business outcomes.

· Strong business and technology translation skills.

· Executive-ready communication and presentation development.

· Analytical rigor and comfort with operational, financial, and performance data.

· Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional influence.

· Practical execution orientation with focus on deployment, adoption, and measurable value realization.

· High degree of adaptability, ownership, judgment, and follow-through.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
