Storyboard Revisionist - Series

SUMMARY:

Storyboard Revisionists work with the Supervising Director, Episodic Director, Editors, and Show Producers to revise and improve a storyboard during the storyboarding and editorial phase of production. These artists revise storyboards based on the direction of their respective Directors, producing a series of drawn panels that improve upon the film’s story, action, humor, continuity, and pacing. They also work with production to ensure the storyboard’s technical data is congruent with the editorial and partner studio workflow.

Sony Pictures Animation is a pre-production animation studio based in Culver City, California, creating both feature animation and animated series with artists from around the world. We pride ourselves on empowering filmmakers to lead the creative process, and allowing the hand of the artist to be truly felt, with the goal of producing bold and innovative visual storytelling.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working from script descriptions and supervisor direction, revise storyboards that improve upon the action, clarity, camera placement, and acting of scenes.
  • Draw everything from quick sketches to finished, detailed, on model storyboard panels.
  • Pitch new storyboard revisions to the Supervising Director, Director, and Show Producers.
  • Discover and create innovative ideas with performance, action, and humor.
  • Revise, edit, and modify storyboard artwork as many times as needed during the episodic revision phase.
  • Ensure that the vision and style of the show is consistently adhered to through execution of action, staging, dialogue and camera.
  • Work closely with the Director(s) to discuss objectives of the storyboard revisions - ask questions, clarify notes, and to ensure storyboard revisions are completed per the feedback provided
  • Ensure deadlines are consistently met and communicate progress of work to supervisors and to appropriate production staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Robust draftsmanship with a sense of design, appeal, and composition.
  • Ability to work on a range of projects (action, comedy and drama sequences) and in a variety of styles from comic to realistic and highly stylized.
  • Strong character acting sensibilities; able to convey personality, emotion, and movement.
  • Strong staging, composition and cinematography skills.
  • Capable of drawing characters and environments on model within show style.
  • Ability to write clear and specific directions on storyboards to communicate with the team.
  • Can manage time efficiently and work independently.
  • Work creatively in a fast paced production environment.
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change.
  • Self motivated, good interpersonal skills, and an excellent teammate with a phenomenal outlook.
  • Knowledge of software and hardware including Cintiq, Toon Boom Storyboard Pro and Photoshop.
  • TV animation series experience a plus

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
