At Vast, our mission is to contribute to a future where billions of people are living and thriving in space. Vast is developing next-generation space stations to ensure a continuous human presence in space for America and its allies, enabling advanced microgravity research and manufacturing, and unlocking a new space economy for government, corporate, and private customers. Using an incremental, hardware-rich and low-cost approach, Vast is rapidly developing its multi-module Haven Station. Haven Demo’s 2025 success made Vast the only operational commercial space station company to fly and operate its own spacecraft. Next, Haven-1 is expected to become the world’s first commercial space station when it launches, followed by additional Haven modules to enable permanent human presence by 2030. Our team is all-in, committed to executing our mission safely and on time. If you want to work with the most talented people on Earth furthering space exploration for humanity, come join us.

Vast is looking for a Staff Technical Sourcer, reporting to the Manager, Talent Sourcing to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

You'll shape how Vast finds and attracts the engineers who will design, build, and launch the next generation of human-rated space systems — and you'll raise the bar for how we do it. This role is for a Sourcer who has mastered the craft and is ready to multiply their impact — mentoring peers, building the strategies and tools that make our sourcing function stronger, and solving the hardest talent challenges in one of the most ambitious industries on Earth.

This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.

Responsibilities:
  • Utilize various sourcing techniques to identify niche technical   backgrounds across multiple departments at Vast
  • Conduct deep talent mapping, competitive analysis, and workforce intelligence research to uncover high-value talent, anticipate market trends, and inform sourcing strategies for critical and hard-to-fill roles
  • Utilize advanced sourcing techniques ,including Boolean search, AI-powered talent intelligence platforms, competitive mapping, and non-traditional channels,to identify passive and active candidates with highly specialized technical backgrounds
  • Create and maintain a pipeline of passive and active niche technical candidates for current and future requisitions
  • Initiate and engage with potential candidates in creative and new ways, including with messages and emails, sparking their interest in opportunities at Vast
  • Conduct initial candidate screenings, evaluate technical qualifications, and record detailed interview notes for hiring teams
  • Educate, coach, and consult hiring managers, including executives, and Recruiting Partners on market realities, sourcing strategy, and best approaches for filling complex roles
  • Proactively advise recruiting leadership and executives on talent market trends, competitive intelligence, organizational design considerations, and competitive positioning to influence hiring decisions at the leadership level
  • Take ownership of talent branding activities to enhance the organization’s visibility and appeal to top technical talent
  • Recommend sourcing and recruiting best practices and help to implement them across the team(s)
  • Proactively own projects and programs — ranging from recruiting events, executive searches, and sourcing campaigns to process redesigns — that create organizational impact beyond individual requisitions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of technical sourcing or full-cycle recruiting experience, with a demonstrated track record of filling senior, niche, and executive-level engineering roles
  • Expert-level proficiency in LinkedIn Recruiter, advanced Boolean search, and AI-powered sourcing and talent intelligence platforms (e.g., HireEZ, Seekout, or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to source candidates across highly technical disciplines
  • Proven experience mentoring or informally leading other sourcers or recruiters, with the ability to coach and elevate team performance
  • Strong data literacy — ability to build, interpret, and present sourcing metrics and market intelligence to Hiring Managers and recruiting leadership
  • Experience leading or contributing to process improvement initiatives, training programs, or broader recruiting projects beyond individual requisition ownership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write compelling, personalized candidate outreach and to communicate credibly with technical talent
  • Proficiency with an ATS (e.g., Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, or similar) and a strong commitment to data integrity

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Thrives in dynamic, high-pressure environments, demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and sound judgment amid competing priorities.  Prior experience in the aerospace, defense, space, or advanced technology industry

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
