About Pear Suite

Pear Suite is an early-stage digital health company building software for community-based care. Our care navigation platform equips community health workers, doulas, care navigators, and the organizations that support them with tools to collect, visualize, and act on social determinants of health data. We help community-based organizations, health systems, and government-funded care programs deliver more coordinated, person-centered care.

Why Pear Suite?

We’re a mission-driven team committed to health equity and innovation in community-based care. You’ll thrive here if you’re eager to take initiative, value autonomy, and enjoy building structure where none exists. Join us to build scalable, human-centered technology that empowers frontline workers and improves lives across the U.S.

About the role

We're hiring an experienced full-stack engineer to help shape the architecture and technical direction of Pear Suite's platform. This posting spans two levels on our engineering ladder (Senior Software Engineer and Staff Software Engineer) because we're hiring for the scope of work below, not a fixed title. We'll assess your experience through the interview process and offer the level, title, and compensation that fit: Senior or Staff.

A note on leveling. Engineers at both levels do similar kinds of work, architecture, hands-on development, and technical direction. What changes is scope and independence. A Senior Software Engineer typically owns the design and architecture of a system with some oversight from engineering leadership. A Staff Software Engineer typically owns architecture for a major system or cross-cutting concern used across the whole engineering org, sets technical direction with minimal oversight, and leads complex multi-engineer initiatives end to end. The requirements below are a spectrum and where you land within that spectrum will be determined during the interview process.

What you'll do

  • Design and architect scalable, reusable software across the full stack: frontend (React/TypeScript), backend (GraphQL), and cloud infrastructure (GCP).
  • Lead technical initiatives from proposal through delivery, balancing hands-on development with strategic design.
  • Set technical standards and raise the bar on quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Document technical decisions and designs clearly, for both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Thoroughly test individual pieces of code and the system as a whole; champion software engineering best practices.
  • Mentor other engineers, formally or informally.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership on technical priorities and trade-offs.

At the Staff level, you'll additionally

  • Own architecture and technical direction for a major system or cross-cutting concern used across the entire engineering org (e.g., data platform, integrations, security).
  • Lead complex, multi-engineer initiatives with minimal oversight.

Qualifications

The required list below is the floor for this posting. The more of the “typically Staff” list that matches your background, the more likely you'll be leveled as Staff rather than Senior.

Required

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including full-stack development.
  • Deep expertise in React, GraphQL, and TypeScript.
  • Proven experience designing and maintaining cloud architectures (GCP).
  • Strong architecture and system-design judgment, with a track record of decisions that held up in production.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance hands-on development with strategic design.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Typically Points to a Staff-Level Offer

  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant ownership of complex, cross-cutting systems.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership across multiple projects, systems, or teams.
  • A track record of setting technical direction with minimal oversight, and owning a system or platform area used by the entire engineering org.
  • Experience mentoring engineers across levels without formal management authority.
How Success Is Measured
  • Senior: quality and durability of the systems you design, depth of hands-on contribution, and growing cross-team influence.
  • Staff: scope and impact of the systems you own, quality of technical decisions at an org level, and contribution to engineering-wide practices and the hiring bar.

Benefits and Perks

  • A mission driven culture that values innovation, collaboration and growth
  • Equity: participation in an early-stage company
  • Fully Remote
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Comprehensive Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Health and Wellness Stipend
  • Tech Stipend
  • Co-working Stipend
  • Education and professional development allowance ($1,500 annually)
  • Home office setup stipend

Compensation

  • Senior Software Engineer: $120,000 – $150,000 base salary.
  • Staff Software Engineer: $150,000 – $170,000 base salary.

Compensation Range Disclosure

Pear Suite posts broad salary bands to support pay transparency.

While the full band is shown, actual offers within this band are based on a candidate's experience, skills, and internal pay equity. Only a small number of candidates, typically those with highly specialized and directly relevant experience, are placed near the top of the range. Most new hires will fall below the top of the band to allow for long-term progression and growth within the role.

Pear Suite is a fully remote organization so compensation may be adjusted upward for candidates residing in higher-cost labor markets. These geographic adjustments are not reflected in the posted range.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
