Staff Software Engineer

About The RoleThe RealReal is looking for a highly experienced and self-motivated Staff Software Engineer (Full Stack) to join our Product & Technology organization, reporting to the Manager, Engineering.
Working closely with Product partners and Engineering management, you will build technical solutions that enhance, optimize, and iterate on The RealReal's platform. You will work with Product and business stakeholders to build robust, scalable back-ends that power seamless and engaging customer journeys. You will also help raise the technical bar for the engineers around you and shape how we build as we grow.

• Lead the architecture and development of software solutions, making strategic decisions that influence our technical direction.

• Work closely with cross-functional teams to align technology development with business objectives, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Perform rigorous code reviews and advocate for best coding practices to ensure our products are efficient and maintainable.

• Provide guidance and support to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and contributing to a culture of excellence.

• Research emerging technologies and trends in software engineering, identifying opportunities to enhance our projects and processes.

• Address complex technical challenges with innovative solutions, anticipating potential issues to ensure smooth project execution.

What You Bring To The Role

Minimum Requirements:

• Proven experience with the development, scaling, and maintenance of distributed systems

• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, architectural design, and agile development methodologies

• Excellent analytical abilities and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to work independently on complex issues

• Effective communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas clearly and concisely

Preferred Requirements:

• Experience with Ruby on Rails, Java or Kotlin, or Elixir.

• 8+ years of software development experience with a track record of successfully shipping consumer or business facing products, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Familiarity with Front-end JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue, etc.), Gradle and Spring Boot.

• Familiarity with Python and AWS, or contributions to open-source projects and a strong GitHub portfolio.

The expected salary range for this role is $172,460.00-$215,575.00. To determine starting pay we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location and an evaluation of a candidate’s skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity. Additionally, salary is just one component of TRR’s total rewards package. Depending on role, employees may also be eligible for a bonus program, incentive pay and benefits.
