You will report to the Director of Technical Art on the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Be hands-on in development, writing excellent code that sets a high standard for other engineers.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and operate AI-assisted engineering tools that improve code quality, reliability, security, performance, and developer productivity across the software delivery lifecycle
  • Implement new components and feature sets for our data platform solutions in multiple problem spaces including backend services, deployment, and monitoring
  • Help teams navigate ambiguity and complexity by breaking down problems, identifying risks, and clearly communicating trade-offs.
  • Champion the technical vision, architecture, and execution for the tools engineering team with production and management
  • Collaborate effectively with production, design, art, and other engineering teams to deliver tools that are purpose-driven, robust, and scalable
  • Provide documentation and trainings on new tools and workflows to internal customers
  • Partner with game developers, infrastructure engineers, and QA teams to align release processes with development needs.
Required Qualifications:
  • 6+ years of professional experience in software engineering, including experience delivering live or shipped products at scale
  • 3+ years working on game development tools
  • Experience supporting AI/ML platforms, inference services, model-serving systems, data pipelines, or GPU-backed workloads
  • Experience with distributed system architectures and with maintaining large scale cloud services within a diverse set of public cloud technologies: AWS RDS, S3, EC2, etc.
  • B.S. in computer science or equivalent experience
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguity and influence cross-functional stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Proficiency in GoLang, Java, C++ and C#.
  • Experience working with large game teams
  • Experience working with large code bases
  • Experience collaborating with teammates across multiple disciplines
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working in Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems
  • Experience of working with desktop applications
  • Experience collaborating with teammates across multiple disciplines
  • Product sense, pragmatism, and player empathy in making tech decisions

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit, and decision-making that prioritizes the delight of players. We will be looking at your past studies, experience, and your personal relationship with games. If you embody player empathy and care about players' experiences, this could be your role!

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
