Description
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We're turning today's impossible into tomorrow's standard -from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
As Staff Product Manager, Vehicle Automation & Home Integration, you will define the long-term vision, strategy, and roadmap for a portfolio of connected experiences that span the vehicle, personal devices, and the home. This role requires a product leader who can deeply understand customer needs, emerging technologies, ecosystem dynamics, and competitive patterns to create compelling experiences that solve real customer problems.
You will shape experiences related to vehicle-to-home access, connected home interoperability, proximity- and device-initiated vehicle interactions, and customer-configurable automations that coordinate actions across systems. Success in this role requires strong product judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to translate broad opportunity spaces into clear strategies, prioritized roadmaps, and actionable product requirements.
This role sits at the intersection of software, hardware, connectivity, and ecosystem partnerships. The ideal candidate can connect customer insight with technical possibility, align stakeholders around a bold product vision, and work closely with design and engineering to deliver industry-leading experiences.
What You'll Do
  • Define and own the long-term product vision and roadmap across a portfolio of connected automation and home integration experiences
  • Identify unmet customer needs through research, observation, trend analysis, and competitive benchmarking, then turn those insights into differentiated product strategy
  • Develop a clear point of view on how vehicle experiences should interact with external ecosystems, connected devices, and automation platforms
  • Partner closely with Design, Engineering, Program, and other Product Managers to define end-to-end experiences and ensure requirements are clear, measurable, and actionable
  • Lead prioritization and trade-off decisions across multiple product areas, balancing customer value, technical feasibility, time, cost, and business goals
  • Define product requirements for complex cross-system experiences involving software, hardware, connectivity, authentication, privacy, and controls
  • Influence senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams through strong communication, storytelling, and structured decision-making
  • Gather and analyze customer feedback to continuously improve the customer experience
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product effectiveness and success

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 8+ years working on technology-powered digital products in roles such as product management, product marketing, or technology development.
  • Demonstrated success defining product vision and roadmaps for complex software and/or hardware-enabled experiences
  • Ability to think holistically about end-to-end journeys, not just isolated features
  • Experience defining customer-facing software products that connect across platforms, services, or ecosystems
  • Proven ability to balance tradeoffs between consumer expectations, business objectives, and technical constraints.
  • Expertise in developing solutions to complex challenges using data-informed decision-making and risk assessment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing, with the ability to effectively balance and integrate vision, strategy, and technical details in a cohesive narrative.
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing clear, high-quality product requirements and driving alignment from concept through delivery
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts effectively across stakeholders.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Advanced degree in business, engineering, human-computer interaction, computer science, or a related discipline
  • Experience with connected devices, home ecosystems, interoperability standards, or automation platforms
  • Experience defining products that span mobile, web, cloud, embedded, and/or in-vehicle touchpoints
  • Familiarity with technologies such as NFC, Bluetooth, orchestration frameworks, or smart device ecosystems
  • Strong product instincts around trust, privacy, permissions, and customer control in connected experiences
  • Experience launching or scaling ecosystem products that require coordination across internal teams and external partners

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
