We believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. We recognize that mental health issues can be complex and multifaceted, and we are dedicated to treating the whole person, not just the symptoms.

We aim to create a world where mental health is no longer stigmatized or marginalized, but rather is embraced as an integral part of one's overall well-being.

We believe that by providing quality care that is both evidence-based and compassionate, we can empower individuals to take charge of their mental health and achieve their full potential. We are passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of those struggling with mental health issues and we strive to be a force for positive change in the field of mental healthcare.

Rula is a remote-first company. We currently hire in most U.S. states, with the exception of Hawaii.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior User Experience Researcher to help us deeply understand the needs, motivations, and challenges of patients, and translate those insights into product experiences that make mental health care easier to access.

In this role, you will lead end-to-end research initiatives that inform product strategy and improve the patient journey. You'll partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, and Data teams to ensure decisions are grounded in meaningful user insights and behavioral data.

Beyond executing studies, you will help shape how research influences product development at Rula by identifying high-impact research opportunities, defining research roadmaps, and turning signals from users, product analytics, and feedback into insights that guide product direction.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, enjoys solving complex human problems, and is excited about using research to improve how people connect with mental health care.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in UX research, human-computer interaction, psychology, or a related field

  • Expertise in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including usability testing, user interviews, surveys, behavioral analytics, and diary studies

  • Proven ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights that directly inform product decisions

  • Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills, with experience working across product, design, and engineering teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor research findings for different audiences including leadership

Preferred Qualifications

While having the preferred qualifications enhances your candidacy, having all of them is not mandatory. We encourage all interested applicants to apply, even those who may not meet every preferred requirement.

  • Experience working in a high-growth startup or fast-paced product environment

  • Familiarity with behavioral analytics tools such as Amplitude, Mixpanel, or Google Analytics

  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and inclusive research methodologies

  • Experience working in or adjacent to healthcare, with an understanding of patient and provider workflows

We're serious about your well-being! As part of our team, full-time employees receive:

  • 100% remote work environment: Working hours to support a healthy work-life balance, ensuring you can meet both professional and personal commitments (must be based in United States, currently not hiring in Hawaii)

  • Attractive pay and benefits: Full transparency of pay ranges regardless of where you live in the United States

  • Comprehensive health benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and FSA/HSA

  • 401(k) plan access: Start saving for your future

  • Generous time-off policies: Including 2 company-wide shutdown weeks each year for self-care (for most employees)

  • Paid parental leave: Available for all parents, including birthing, non-birthing, adopting, and fostering

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Support for your mental and physical health

  • New hire home office stipend: Set up your workspace for success

  • Quarterly department stipend: Fund team-building activities or in-person gatherings

  • Wellness events and lunch & learns: Explore a variety of engaging topics

  • Community and employee resource groups: Participate in groups that celebrate employee identity and lived experiences, fostering a sense of community and belonging for all

Our team

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion are fundamental to our mission of making mental healthcare work for everyone.  We are dedicated to having a culture of inclusion that will support our employees in feeling safe, seen, heard, and valued.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
