The Staff Technical Writer leads the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation for the Alkami online banking software platform. This role translates complex technical concepts into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences. Collaborating with stakeholders and subject matter experts (SMEs), the Staff Technical Writer ensures timely delivery of high-quality documentation. As a leader and mentor, this role drives innovation in content creation, improves documentation processes, and enhances overall documentation quality to support client success. Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesLead the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation, including product guides and release notes, ensuring accuracy and clarity
Develop deep product knowledge, collaborating with SMEs and product managers to gather information and validate content
Validate procedures using demo and live software, creating visuals (graphics, flow charts, diagrams), and capturing and modifying screenshots using SnagIt
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise content suitable for diverse audiences
Create and edit visuals, such as screenshots, graphics, and diagrams, to enhance documentation
Collaborate cross-functionally with teams, including training and development specialists, to improve product usability and client understanding
Publish and maintain documentation on the client portal, adhering to organizational standards, templates, and style guides
Identify and implement process improvements, documenting best practices for future use
Manage multiple large-scale documentation projects, ensuring timely completion in a fast-paced environment
Mentor and support team members, providing guidance and fostering professional growth
Drive documentation strategy, innovating new standards, tools, and processes to improve content quality and delivery
Minimum Years of Experience
Minimum of 8 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in the fintech or software industry
Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, Journalism, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered
Required
Extensive experience as a Technical Writer in the fintech or software industry
Expert-level writing and editing skills, with meticulous attention to detail, voice, and tone
Proficiency in using a Content Management System (CMS) for organizing and publishing documentation
Advanced knowledge of Google Docs and adherence to the Google Developer Style Guide or similar
Familiarity with using AI tools, such as ChatGPT and other large language models, to enhance documentation processes
Strong interpersonal skills, effectively building relationships across cross-functional teams
Proficiency with Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence, for task and documentation management
Demonstrated curiosity and commitment to continuous learning
Ability to manage multiple large-scale projects, meeting tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
Leadership and mentoring skills, supporting team development and performance
Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, driving innovation in documentation processes
Preferred
Experience with API and SDK documentation, capable of writing technical content for developer audiences
Skill in UX writing and microcopy, enhancing user experience through clear and concise content
Experience in rethinking and applying new and changing tool sets (including AI), processes, and modalities to improve user experience
Familiarity with single-sourcing and structured authoring practices
Understanding of version control systems, such as Git
