Position Description:
Sr. Embedded Software Engineer for Medtronic, Inc. located at Northridge, CA. Collaborate with system architects to design, develop, and test embedded software and firmware including the new generation pump radio firmware and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) stack, ensuring compliance with the medical device standards. Design and implement the Radio Frequency (RF) application code for radio chipsets using the NRF (Nordic Semiconductor Radio Frequency) tool suite and develop and test the BLE firmware stack to ensure reliable operation. Create BLE stack and network architecture design for the Medtronic BLE eco-system. Drive the design and development using event-driven programming and Hierarchical State Machine (HSM) models, supported in the Quantum Platform (QP) framework to produce scalable, modular design and code. Perform integration of software modules to assist developers and test teams to setup hardware and software of BLE and pump firmware. Conduct software documentation and risk assessments based on the medical software development life cycle (SDLC) standard and IEC 62304 using Agile. Responsible for creating and maintaining documentation for traceability from design input to design output. Analyze software failure mode by assessing risks and providing justification or mitigation. Write and optimize application code for Embedded Linux real-time operating systems (RTOS) including Embedded Linux, ThreadX, and Zephyr on platforms such as Advance RISC Machine (ARM) processors and Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) controllers. Synchronize and debug multi-processor systems, driver development involving core registers, communication protocols, and low-power design using ARM processors and AVR microcontrollers. Develop low-power designs and debug driver-level software involving core registers and communication protocols, including BLE, Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C), Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter (UART), Controller Area Network (CAN), and Recommended Standard RS232 with protocols for Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updates. Utilize Embedded C, C++, Python, and shell scripting, using embedded tools including Digital Multi-Meters (DMMs), logic analyzers, power analyzers, and Sodera BLE sniffers, Wire Protocol Suite. Leverage Version control systems including Git, Subversion (SVN), Continuous Improvement / Continuous Development (CI/CD) pipelines, and automated testing frameworks tailored for embedded systems. *Position works a hybrid model and will be onsite in Northridge, CA – 3 or 4 days per week and permits remote work 1-2 days per week. #LI-DNI
