To achieve this goal, the Cloud Hardware Systems Engineering (CHSE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. We are looking for experienced engineers with a dedicated passion for customer focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to envision and implement future technical solutions that will manage and optimize the Cloud infrastructure.  

 We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join the team.

Responsibilities
  • Understand customer requirements and high-level architectural design, lead electrical design execution at system level, responsible for detailed design specifications.
  • Collaborate with internal design team (thermal, mechanical, firmware, OS) and external partner (ODM/OEM) for design implementation, ensure product functionality, performance, quality and reliability.
  • Responsible for complete and deep design review, including schematics, board files, BOM, DFT, DFM, etc.
  • Define board level bring-up and electrical test requirements, ensure complete coverage, execute or guarantee execution.
  • Work with partner teams to create system level bring-up and end-to-end validation test plans, ensure complete coverage, guarantee execution.
  • Troubleshooting, issue triage, leading hardware related debug efforts with partner teams, drive resolution and bug reports. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience. 
  • 5+ years of experience designing, developing, and delivering compute, storage, networking, or accelerator-based hardware systems across the product development lifecycle, including high-speed and high-power designs.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and executing board-level and system-level bring-up, validation, and functional test plans, and diagnosing complex hardware issues in server or cloud infrastructure environments.
  • 5+ years of experience collaborating across hardware, firmware, software, and infrastructure engineering teams to evaluate design tradeoffs, identify technical risks, and drive resolution of system-level challenges.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud

Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with high-volume server hardware manufacturing and production.
  • Knowledge of large-scale datacenter operations and infrastructure.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces such as PCIe, DDR, and Ethernet.
  • Experience with operating systems (Windows, Linux), system firmware (BIOS, BMC), and hardware/software security technologies.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

Electrical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
