The Sr. Consultant is a consultant and trusted advisor within Optum Advisory Services.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • As a trusted subject matter expert, the consultant will support projects for payer systems and applications by creating technical and business process designs, performing analysis, writing requirements, conducting workstream sessions, fostering healthy client relationships, and taking ownership of deliverables in a fast-paced environment
  • Major contributor to team problem solving across full scope of project
  • Able to structure and drive team working sessions (e.g., problem solving, discovery) with assistance from delivery lead
  • Able to facilitate or participate in client discovery sessions to capture requirements and document process flows
  • Establish self as knowledgeable/credible on topics
  • Use process design and testing tools to to support client work. (e.g., Jira, Rally, Visio, Miro)
  • Create documented deliverables that translate business needs to technical requirements. Examples of deliverable include: writing features, specifications, user stories related to payer value chain (e.g., claims, enrollment, provider, customer service, care management)
  • Participate in agile project activities such as PI planning, grooming, sprint planning and prioritization
  • Lead or participate in various practice development projects
  • Proactively anticipate and communicate challenges and risks with recommendations to address issues
  • Work independently or as a team member to create high quality deliverable documentation
  • Facilitate deliverable review sessions with clients to obtain input and approval
  • Communicates effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to prospects, members and other team members
  • Leveraging AI to complete projects and complete client deliverables

Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of healthcare Payer operations and / or technology experience in at least one of the following payer domains: claims, enrollment / eligibility, billing, provider
  • 2+ years of external client-facing consulting experience
  • 2+ years of experience documenting consulting deliverables (e.g., documenting requirements, writing features, user stories, test cases, technical specifications / mapping documents,
  • 2+ years of experience creating process flow diagrams
  • 1+ years of experience working with at least one core administration system such as Facets, QNXT, Health Rules Payer, Tapestry
  • 1+ years of experience in managing a workstream
  • 1+ years of experience work on at least one agile project
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Visio
  • Willingness to travel domestically, up to 25% depending on project requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience working with Facets
  • Experience working on at least one end-to-end payer systems and application implementations or migration project
  • Experience with any / all of the following applications: MS Project, Smartsheet, Service Now, Jira, Rally
  • Experience in a Product Owner role
  • Experience working on a cloud migration project
  • Experience using Microsoft Copilot, writing prompts, and creating agents

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
